Reducing Meds.

I am waiting for stents, and wondered if medication is reduced sometime after having the procedure.

I take Ramipril, isosorbide, mononitrate, Ranexa, and aspirin, it would be nice to reduce my medication.

I’ve just had a op and my meds where increased after so it varries I guess.

Hi Bowler,

Following stents and a period of stability after, I was weaned off both Isosorbide mononitrates and the Ranexa. I have been told that Aspirin, I still take drugs for heart rate, blood pressure and statins.

But the worst have gone. I feel great for it as well.

Your reply was encouraging, I do hope that I will be the same and have the meds reduced

I was due to have open heart surgery and have the arteries bypassed and a mitral valve repair at the same time, however the mitral valve is so calcified the surgeon at Papworth said it would be to risky to do, and to have stents instead and they will monitor me re the mitral valve, which I feel I'm sitting on a time bomb.

Hi again Bowler,

I dont know whether your other "valve" problems might make it different. I was delighted to get off the nitrates and the Ranolozene (Ranexa). I had to build up the dosage of them as I am a sensitive sole. Ha Ha.

Following the stents I was allowed to remove them gradually and in my case had no problems.

I see you are inder Papworth as well. They are good.

I'm hoping that at least having the stents done will help one problem.

Papworth is very good, but it's an hours journey for me, I was hoping that they would be at Addenbrook's by now as that's only 1/2 hour away and we can get on the park and ride, however when it's your health the journey is something we have to do.

Did you have your stents at day surgery or did you stay over night, ? I have 3 blockages and wonder if they will do them all at the same time.

I had my stents over 18 months apart but that is another story. Day or overnight depends what time of day you are done. Also what transportation you have available. It would be unusual if they are planning on two or more stents fir them not being done at the same time.

The placing of a stent is very quick.
