Still getting some chest pain.

I had a heart attack in December following approx a year of slight chest pains, which I did nothing about, as they were not so bad I would of gone to Drs. When I had the heart attack Ihad a stent fitted straight away, followed by another stent 3 months later. 6 weeks on and I am still getting chest pains, not bad, but I am aware of them...I am being told to go to Drs, but everyone gets pains, and do not run to Drs don't they? Advice from people who have been through this and did your chest pains cease completely.

Hello. I had heart attack last June and stented I had all sorts of pains twinges and discomfort. Occasionally I got breathless as well. Initially I couldn’t distinguish between what was normal so I either called 111. Went to my doctor or went to hospital. Each time every thing turned out to be fine. I felt bad about causing a commotion however everyone said that I was right to seek help. Having discomfort post heart attack and stent is normal because it has been through a traumatic event. They do get less frequent as things settle. However if you’re in any doubt get it checked out. And remember your GTN spray. Have you started rehab yet? That will help and having contact with the rehab nurse will help with questions. Hope this helps. Stay strong and take care. Zena

I echo Zena's wise words and have similar experiences of returning to hospital, under recommendation of the paramedic, then returning home with everything ok. Got to the stage where I felt I needed something severe to ever consult about my chest pains ever again (probably not unrelated to the fact that almost everyone struggles to get blood out of my veins - well, I am a Yorkshireman and we don't easily give things away for nowt you know. Dodgy subject, and golden advice anyone is going to give is to keep checking things out until you get a proper feel for what ended giving you a stent and what ended up as something else. Better off being safe and protecting that vital muscle. Good strength and all the best wishes for you.

You have had a heart attack and surgical operations. It is going to take time for you to recover - months! You need to look after yourself. If you are getting chest pains seek help, either from your doctor, BHF nurses (0300 330 3311) or 111.

You had a heart attack, you’ve had two stents in 3 months. You are getting chest pain!!! Go and see your GP. You do not score points for stoicism. Hopefully its nothing but it has to be better to find out for certain.

Just a supportive comment! It’s v difficult to judge when symptoms are, or are not serious when you’ve had very mild ones leading to a heart attack.

Best to go get them checked out, until you get much more familiar with them. I’m much better now at dealing with my angina, without an A and E visit. But it’s been going on a long time now and it’s all become much more familiar.

What I’ve learned is....enduring unstable angina, angina symptoms that crescendo, or won’t stop with either two GTN sprays, or reducing effort, different intensity or type of symptoms all seem more worrying, and merit a 999 call.
