I made a couple up:-

YAT - yet another tablet

And genuine ones:-

CVD - cardio vascular disease

CAGB - coronary artery graft bypass

I will let other add more as my dinner is ready!

Yes the acronyms leave me only skim reading postings. Cannot be bothered or don't want to depress myself researching their meaning and gaining more information on what else can go wrong after my own event.

And from my world:

CCB Calcium Channel Blocker

AS Aortic Stenosis

AVR Aortic Valve Replacement

CAD Coronary Artery Disease

TOE Trans Oesophageal Echocardiogram

I think we all develope a personal dictionary of acronyms to help us unravel and understand what is happening to us. Not easy I know but means you do develop a personal vocabulary that may help you with your interactions with the health professionals we depend on. Hang on in there - if you are uncomfortable with bombardment of new words and abbreviation then just ask. A full list would be overwhelming and unhelpful. In my experience, taking an interest in your condition usually gets a positive and helpful response. Good luck!

Great idea. You can always Google them - I’ve had to resort to doing that on occasion. We could always adopt the right way to do things , which is to actually use the words in full first time and then the acronym later eg coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), but that does get a bit tedious after a while.

Why don’t we just stop using abbreviations?
