Isorbide Mononitrate XL

[Dovaston]

Hi have been prescribed 60 mg but due to headaches have split prescored tablet so taking 30mg effectively.what are people's experience of side affects of this drug ? Has anyone managed to titrate up from 30mg to 60 mg. Thank you.

I also split mine 30mg in the morning and another 30mg after Lunch. I split the dose due to headache, but need the full dose for Angina.

I worked on the basis of 60mg is the amount doing the work so as long as I take 60mg it seems OK ???

Hi Pravda thanks for your response. I couldn't handle the 60mg so taking 30mg and hoping tolerance changes so I can get back to 60 at some point ! Cheers

Hi. Yes, I’m now taking 40mg twice a day, as well as the occasional spray. It was v hard at first, but the headaches soon went, and now the dose is built up to a ‘useful’ level.

It’s been well worth it, as I can have a reasonably busy life, now, and enjoy it, too! Before the drugs were juggled, I had lots of unstable angina, and felt exhausted most of the time.

Do persist. It will get easier.

Hi Kristin, Many thanks for your reply telling your experience. I am pleased that life is good for you now. As you say perseverance seems to be the way forward coping with this med !

I only managed this drug for a couple of days. I honestly felt like my head would explode, the pain was so intense. Happily there was an alternative , so ask your Cardiology team if you can't manage on this one.
