very concerned and anxious

Hi I'm due for an angiogram in the morning and am very anxious can anyone please put my mind at rest as I have no idea what this entails. x

Try not to worry, it really isn't bad. In my case they used a vein in my wrist, they occasionally use the groin. The staff will explain what is happening at each stage and you can often see the pictures on a screen. There was no pain, just a strange sensation when it was removed. The cardiologist will probably give you the results later the same day. You need to rest afterwards for a couple of hours to make sure the bleeding has stopped. Then you're not allowed to lift anything heavier than half a kettle of water for a further 48 hours. Best of luck. I'm sure lots of other heart buddies will reply to reassure you.

I don't know the answer, but they only have your best interests at heart, so they will know what is best. Let us know how you get on. I'm guessing it will be one of many unfamiliar situations you'll be experiencing in the future, but have faith in the health-care professionals. They are marvellous. X

Hi, I had one a couple of weeks ago. It really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, the nurses talked me through everything while it was happening. There were a few times I felt a little bit uncomfortable and there was a slightly unusual side effect when they put the dye in as I felt like I had wet myself (by the way I hadn’t). If I can manage it with a large phobia of needles and injections anyone can, good luck and hope you are better soon

Hi I’ve had two and both in my wrist, felt a bit of pressure but no pain, had the option to be sedated but only did that on the 1st one by the 2nd was a pro. They talked me through the whole procedure, very relaxed and had the results at the time, good luck xx

It is ok without, I had sedation the 1st time as i had been in a week after my initial cardiac event, the 2nd one I was in for the day it was perfectly fine without. Talk to them in the morning, they will reassure you, but it’s what will make you feel better x

Hi Kaz, I had one, through my wrist, felt uncomfortable at times but no pain as such. Was even offered the opportunity to watch. The nurses and doctors are great they will talk to you all the way through.

Hi Kaz I had mine through the grion, I’d say the first 5 mins were more uncomfortable than painful, I was given diazepam, after that I felt nothing, and found it fascinating to watch it on the screen, and when they put the dye in it was a lovely warm feeling. I was really nervous but the staff were great. Deep breaths, you can do this. Kaz ❤️💕❣️

Hi Kaz, I had mine in my wrist not painful but as others have said strange sensations at points. Over in no time too. Just have to behave after. I was lucky the cardiologist said mt arteries were beautiful 🤗 take care. Jen x

I would rather have this done than goes to the dentist.

when i had mine in my groin it was fine hardest part was laying down 4 a hour after it was all over goodluck and you will be fine x

Hi I am in the same boat as you. I am having Angiogram today Monday. My problem was also only discovered recently in 2013, mine being Mitral valve flapping about in the breeze!!! Lol although I have no symptoms at all as I have noticed. Even so the hospital want to repair it. I have been told Angiogram is not as bad as sounds you should be fine. Although I admit I am a little anxious myself.

I’ve had loads. U can bleed as if u where having a period or bruise on the top of the legs but I’ve had some where I don’t. Ur belly may hurt afterwards.

I had mine done in September. I was very anxious too. 😲

The worst part is the injection into your wrist but the pain only lasts about 30 seconds. After that I felt nothing during the procedure, apart from a strange tickling sensation in my arm when the catheter was removed.

The cardiologist played music during my procedure. He was a big Frank Sinatra fan, so I I indulged him and let him play his favourites. 😉

Be prepared though as after the procedure you will need to stay in the hospital for quite a long while, during which time your puncture site will be monitored and air slowly released from a cuff until the bleeding has stopped. In my case I got to hospital at 11am, had the procedure at 2pm and was discharged at 9pm. Make sure you drink plenty of water to flush out the dye.

Best advice is to get to the hospital really early and explain how you feel. In my case the staff were really helpful and without their care and understanding I would not have gone through with the procedure. In the end I was so relaxed I didn’t even need a sedative 😊

Thank you to everyone for your kind words of support. Had the angiogram today wasn't too bad but as iv reacted to iodine in the past had to have lots meds first. Then they had few problems getting lines in so had to give me slight sedation to calm my heart rate! But apart from a painful arm & wrist it wasn't too bad . Just glad it's over home resting now, been a long day. Seeing surgeon Friday will then get a date for the big op! x

My Angiogram went OK my arteries are normal no blockages so all fine. No idea about my op!

Still got to have lung function tests plus I'm taking part in research program so lots of extra tests.

Didn't feel much pain but my wrist really aches even now fingers stiff hand slightly swollen.

Have a bruise going up my arm about 6inches from my wrist otherwise all fine.

Update me how you get on.
