Do you think this sort of change to resting heart rate is anything to worry about or just a "normal" wonky-hearted response to illness? I am still feeling rough but so much better than yesterday, just not sure my heart agrees... Would obviously phone NHS 24 if I was hugely worried, just wondering if anyone has experienced similar?

Hi as you’ve been so poorly it would be best to get a doctor to check you out - it is probably fine but an increased heart rate could be a sign of infection - maybe you have a chest infection or something and need some antibiotics. Hope you’re feeling much better soon x

Thank you, you are probably right. Was hoping to avoid the weekend pass-the-buck situation which usually ends in precautionary Sunday night in hospital before someone with authority sends me home on Monday morning... But I'll phone someone tomorrow morning if my heart rate is still high.

Yes better to be safe than sorry.

If you do have to go to A&E, you just know it will be an all nighter. So make sure you take ssomething to read.

Oh no, respiratory test! Enjoy...? 😐 I missed getting a GP appointment today thanks to getting-ready-for-school MAYHEM so am going to phone my heart nurse later, see what she suggests. My resting heart rate is going back down again now, but still higher than usual.

Hope you've got plenty of rest and relaxation planned for later x

Def worth a phone call even just for reassurance, let me know what she says, unfortunately this week is a bit of a nightmare for me, after respiratory I have to pick up my wee mum from Bearsden, she is 88 and is getting a rodent ulcer cut out in the Queen Elizabeth hospital tomorrow, then back to mine to stay and I am taking her to the victoria for plastic surgery, on Wed,I am so out of my comfort zone driving to these hospitals I am so anxious about mum and getting there, parking worries me so much, her appointments are 9am and 8am getting to them in the rush hour is terrifying me, I just hate driving, and trying to reassure mum that she is not a nuisance is awful, but there is no one else, my brother never helps out, men grrrr, sorry moan over, you take care and get fully fit before doing to much, which must be difficult with the wee one xx

Oh, Char, what a week I know exactly what you mean about parking. I get so stressed (even parking outside my house) that my windows steam up! Could you get a taxi with your mum or would that make her more anxious? Good luck with it all xx

Leave earlier than you need to. Traffic doesn't really start till bout 7.30. Then you won't get too anxious. That's gives you time to sit and have a wee cuppa while waiting. Good luck

Just in case any future person wants to know the outcome of this, I spoke to one of the heart failure nurses yesterday and she said this is not an unusual response to illness, not to worry about it unless heart rate did not return to usual levels once recovered. My heart rate has gone down over the last few days, not quite back to its usual 60bpm yet but pretty sure it will be soon. Thanks to all who replied

Hi Alex. This is just from my Fitbit. From what I read they are not spot-on accurate for heart rate, but I've always found mine pretty consistent. My resting heart rate only ever varies between about 59 and 65 (the 67 on this graph was not usual) but over time I've seen this vary quite consistently with how I'm feeling, so I will see it start to sneak up when I'm about to get a cold, even before I'm aware of any symptoms. I think it probably depends why you want to monitor your heart rate and how accurate/reliable you need the readings to be? For my needs, a Fitbit works very well. Hope that helps
