CABG x 2 done

I'm home! Having spent almost 3 weeks in hospitals over the last month I'm pleased to be home. The CABG was done on the 11th July in the end and they did x2 bypasses. The surgeon used both mammary arteries so I have got any healing in the leg and arms. It wasn't all plain sailing post operation though, I was pretty sick for the first couple of days probably due to too much morphine, a chest infection and the anesthetic. I ended up becoming unresponsive on the 2nd day post op and collapsed resulting in a CT brain scan being added to my tests. Then they struggled to get my heart rate to normal level so I've ended up on 2 different medications for that.. diltiazem and Ivabradine. The Ivabradine is giving me weird vision issues in the evening with ghosting and halos as well as flashes of light. Not happy really but it's all the options in have. There's a little fluid around the lung and heart so I'm on water tablets for that.

Generally I'm feeling tired, sore in my chest and have some abdominal pain. I really don't know what I should be expecting to feel like? Is it normal to feel totally wacked still 11 days post op?

Oh you poor sole, you have really been through the wars.

Yes many of us were still really struggling long after the seven days.

Have they said that those two meds are definitely your only option?

Also what about your blood pressure meds, have they looked into the dose in last few days.

It does sometimes take the body a little while to settle & balance out on the new meds & the dosage.

Have you told your Gp, you stil feel light headed & you are still helosinating. If you are still on the strong pain killers, they can make you holusinate too.

Again, over weekend you could call cardiac ward for advice. They can probably still get your medical history up.

Hope you feel better soon :)

Hello and welcome home. Yes it's normal feel exhausted. You will recover but it will be a slow process. You should get invited to a cardiac rehab class after you have recovered for a while, this is an enormous help, as are the people on here. The medications you are on, all have side effects alas, some better than others but mainly there are other meds you can swap that do the same. I've been quite lucky in mine, my CABG was back last November.
