I managed to walk 1 mile with my Guide Dog today around a hugh field, slowly, but felt good with my buddy Asher.

Well done! Walking is great. Do some every day (not a problem with a dog I should think!) and slowly increase pace and distance. Keep it up! It's working for me after a shaky start 18 months ago.

I think its fine dog walking as long as the dog doesn't pull.

Agree. Just increase distance slowly and enjoy it!

Lol yes it is. Have to say our little dog, a king Charles cavalier initially loved the walks but as they got longer and longer she used to run and hide under the table if she saw me with the lead lol

A dog is the best medicine, they give you a focus and they help you relax as you walk. I managed another long walk to shops and shopping, cheated and got a lift home though. Getting out of the house helps.

I dont count that as cheating, I used to do the mile and a bit walk into town for a haircut and shave and got a cab back. It's the getting out agreed

I too have a guide dog. She is staying with friends at present as I was worried she might see a cat and pull! I'm three weeks post bypass op. I'm missing my dog. Having read your post perhaps I should get her back home

I got my dog back around 4 weeks post o. I just walked him up and down road without harness. He seemed relaxed by this, but i had my daughter walking with me. After 6 weeks he went back in harness, but he never pulls me. I think it depends how hard your dog pulls, but it also depends on how you are recovering. However, having him home is the best medicine, someone still comes a couple of times a week to take him on a free run, but I am walking him in harness a fair bit now and I'm now in week 12.

Thanks that's reassuring. I get my dog back tomorrow and can't wait to be with her again.

Hope you are doing OK, my poor dog has hurt his pad on a free run, he is funny it's been strapped up for a few days to stop him licking it, he is walking OK until he sees me and starts to limp. What is your dog? Lab or retriever? And what is her name?

She is a lab/retriever cross named Faith. I've got her back and she is lying at my feet. It's nearly five weeks since my bypass. I've taken her out on her harness a couple of times. All well so far. Walking helps deal with the boredom of having to be at home all the time. Hope the poorly paw gets better soon.
