Psoriasis Skin complaint for 20+ yrs Struggling to improve, offered biologics appointment. Is this a step forward?

I've had very mild Psoriasis all my life, but managed to control with cream and attention. Now retired (No stress) hardly noticeable. Unfortunately I passed on the condition to my son who developed his around Unversity times and has been trying to get it under control ever since. Now 20 years later and having tried many different, Tablets, creams, UV treatments which worked, but returned in a few months.

He has been offered a biologics appointment after he refused more cream, more UV and little else. Felt he needed something new/different that could work. Is this in reality something that could work? Does it have too many other side effects.

He is very active, fit and has competed in Iron man type events. He has skin blemishes on about 15% of his body. Sun sea & relaxation does help, but then you have to return to work.

Looking for some help or direction for him.

I take a shot called Embrel, it has worked wonders for me, but as you said it comes with side effects. Luckily I have not had any yet. Definitely worth it for me.

Thanks for the reply, just heard he's been offered Humira (Adalimumab) They are just testing to ensure he is able to take it once a fortnight. Fingers crossed.

I've been on Stelara for a little over a year and it's worked wonderful for me (although not a cure) and without it's issues.

A friend of mine has been on Humira injections for approx 3 years. Almost completely clear of psoriasis (which was previously extensive), and hasn't mentioned side effects.

Hi I have been taking Enbrel for 14 years to treat severe P and PA. The drug transformed my life. I have found that I always have one patch that never goes (had to have breaks to have my children) but it's nothing. Only side effect I have noticed in last 2/3 years have started suffering from sinus infections. I can also say that although it is an immune suppressant I was ill more frequently before I started taking it. Patients on biologics are also closely monitored. I wish your son all the best and hope that biologics work as well for him as they have for me.

My husband was put on humira with great success. Unfortunately it did not have such good effect with his arthritis so he stopped the humira and within a year his skin was as bad as ever. He has just started Sterala, first injection last week so we will see..
