Yo yo dieting

I am having a huge problem losing and gaining weight over and over again. It doesn’t seem I know how to stay consistent or even commit. I run often for exercise and try to diet by restricting calories but then when I lose the weight I celebrate by eating whatever I want and however much. I would then gain the weight back. It’s doing a number on my overall health. Any advice or insight?

Don't celebrate with food. Treat yourself by NOT having it.

It sounds like you are trying to diet to lose weight and then think you can go back to eating like you were before and then the weight comes right back on. Instead, try making a lifestyle change that you can stick with. Make a small or moderate change every 1 or 2 weeks and keep it. Like cut out soda. Or incorporate more fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet. Then in later weeks cut out all candy or desert-like foods from your normal everyday diet. +(Still allow for eating these foods 1 day a month every month, that way you are not completely deprived and on a day you have a craving for something, write it down to have on that special day. When that day comes around give yourself leave to eat anything or everything off the list that you want. ) While you won't notice a huge difference on the scale right away, you will be making changes that last and you will notice a lot of things including feeling better about yourself, being happier +(when I cut out all added sugar_ which is in a lot of boxed and prepared foods I noticed a huge shift in mood and weight and overall puffyness).

Lifestyle changes for the long run are what you should focus on. And small baby steps in the right direction are better than leaps and bounds standing in place. If that makes sense.

I’m struggling as well, but being aware and caring about it, is helping. For me, the issue is that deep down, I’m afraid of commitment. Putting so much effort on myself can feel overwhelming at times. I notice myself making choices that help me lose weight, but everyone else seems to be eating the same and eating foods that I can’t partake in consistently like they are. At times I feel upset because I so badly want to eat all of the foods like the majority of people around me and not care. I ask myself why are they still so skinny and I’m

gaining weight? Deep down, I know that they are probably battling a similar battle or an unknown battle. I also know that everyone is unique. The focus should not be them, but me. I agree, it’s a lifestyle change and the truth is that for me some foods just can’t be in moderation or eaten without thought. I have to be aware that I can easily fall back. Try to not label any food as bad, but be more aware that certain foods can derail me or be an easy outlet when I’m not mentally healthy. So for me, being aware of my trigger foods, putting effort in making better food choices and trying to take care of myself mentally and physically helps me stay on track. I’m not perfect and it can be difficult/frustrating at times, but so far it’s working. Hope this helps and makes sense.
