1) Talking with friends and family

2) Doing a home renovation project

3) Travel

4) Working a lot

5) Walking, bicycle trips

6) Therapy but that's hard and makes things worse before it gets better

I couldn't go to the cemetery. I couldn't go to church.

I concentrated on completing all the jobs my husband wanted to do or had planned to do in the rear garden.

His small veg patch became a mini wild flower meadow. ( My idea)

The fish pond became another patio area.

Several large bushes were removed ,the last one replaced with a sun dial.

Yes , I had help . A kind gardener , who I can't thank enough.

I am extremely pleased with the results even though there's more to do ,

I hope my dearest husband can see it all and approves

Just breathe

Sometimes that means actually sitting still and just counting in for 4 and out for 4 until some semblance of control or peace returns.

All is valid

We often feel we're not grieving "right" or doing things in the "right" order or way. Everything thing we feel is perfectly valid whether it seems to fit into what we think or are told grief should be.

We should all do what feels right for us at the time, and often not what were told to do or think we should be doing. Of course if we are under a counsellor or therapist, then we can incorporate our own ideas with theirs, it's about what gets us through this period, however long that is. <3

visiting the graveyard regular really helped me and hill walking as well.

Keep your mind as busy as possible but also have times for reflection too.

Volunteer, even online volunteering gets you talking to others and gives opportunities to form friendships.

Take an free online course such as The Open University Future Learn, a vast selection of really excellent short courses you can dip into.

Try a new hobby, something you always wanted to do, no matter big or small.

By trying any of the contributions we've had needs courage and motivation, but you can do it, take the first step, you won't regret it, it really helps and it doesn't cost anything!

Surprisingly difficult to do.

Talking I find difficult because too many people are critical of the words I use. Even just slightly.

Companionship has not been easy because too many people I find have the "been there, done that & got the "T-Shirt".

Reading books has not been easy because I find they do not strike the right tone with me.

Finding help has not been easy because everything is in the wrong place when I look.

My invaluable source of support has undoubtedly been writing a journal. I am learning to be patient and no-critical. I can do this when and how I want and I can use whatever language I like to express myself. Not the only thing I have just remembered but one will do as you asked.

If you ever come back for a 2nd, I'd say work. Doyle was right when he wrote that work is the best antidote for sorrow.

Totally agree, writing a journal is freedom to express yourself, in whatever form.
