Behcets And coeliac disease?

Does anybody know if you’re likely to develop coeliac disease if you have Behcets? I’ve been really suffering lately! I had a baby 5 months ago and obviously wanting to loose weight. I’ve lost nearly 4 stone since April (thank god) but I only started dieting about 3 weeks ago.. on a few occasions I’ve eaten bread and have been terribly ill within minutes with stomach cramps, feeling dizzy, headache, nausea and diarrhoea! I’ve felt that I’ll I've had to go to bed.. I’m not sure if I’m having a very mild flare up with the Behcets at the moment as I’ve had a really dry month and I can feel ulcers coming up.. if anyone can answer this would be great!

Thank you

Sophie

I've had to leave out all sorts of sugars and starches while developing intolerances: potato starch, lactose and gluten. I've been celiac tested three times and always it comes up negative. But it is like an intolerance and leaving out gluten helps a lot. My son has the same thing and we try to avoid gluten. Since it's not celiac having a bit every now and then doesn't hurt, but the daily piece of wheat bread will kick back. Try full oats (read the label) and the germans make a lot of gluten free bread with no potato also. It seems every decade I age a new sugar pops up that my body won't tolerate. Veggies and protein gets a thumbs up. Flax oil helps with inflammation and also the intestines: takes about two months to kick in.

I have been tested numerous times for coeliac as its in my family, however I'm not but I have alot issues with food intolerance. I find spelt bread works best for me, I also try to limit eggs to once a week. I have a flare up at the minute and it effects my stomach every time.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby

Losing a stone per month without trying sounds unusual so I’d suggest seeing your GP for a checkup. Behçet’s tends to play up after delivery and other autoimmune disorders can too. One of my friends developed thyroid issues and lost loads of weight after childbirth but had other symptoms too like fast heart rate, anxiety and insomnia. Hope you get some answers and feel better soon.

My old GP told me I had coeliac but I never had a biopsy. Was instructed to follow a gluten free diet and the gastric symptoms stopped. Still get bother with nausea but have been told that’s due to the probable Behçet’s. I haven’t yet got an official diagnosis but my rheumy believes that is what I have. Also can’t tolerate caffeine.
