Starting Humira

I am 17 yrs. old and was diagnosed with Behcet’s and I have Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy. I have been dealing with gastrointestinal pain, joint pain, and ulcers(mouth and genital), that’s why I’m starting the Humira. I’ll be doing my first injection tomorrow and am of course really nervous. I will be doing these injections every 2 weeks. If anyone is also on this medication, I would like to know how you handled the first injection and if you had any side effects. As well as helping you with pain and how effective it really is.

I started Humira for Behçet’s in April 2018 after developed antibodies to Infliximab. It has been great as so handy to self-administer the injection at home (not over 6 hours round trip for an infusion!) I inject in my tummy every 2 weeks and find it quick, easy and not painful. I have not had any side effects. Good luck!

The only random side effect I did notice is that I yawn a bit after my injection. I don’t feel tired with it. So I now give myself the injection last thing in the evening, rather than risking looking rude and yawning at work or around friends without realising in the daytime!

Hey Cool_blue! I hope your injections were okay? It only feels weird the first few times (until I had a go, I really did think I'd have to go to the GP and have them do it for me because I was scared), but that's totally normal - poking yourself with needles is not a standard thing, after all! - I used Humira for two years before the NHS moved me onto a biosimilar and i loved it - the pen mechanism works really well. I'd recommend the tummy for injections, I find it less painful and I'm less likely to bruise. I hope your treatment does awesome things for you! xx
