Hello, just curious to people experience using Daktacort or Betamethasone Valerate cream for genital ulcers. Also if there are any other recommendations for treatment in this delicate area.
My consultant prescribed me Betamethasone Valerate however my GP has prescribed Daktacort so I’m wondering why two different creams for same problem.

Daktacort contains steroid plus an anti-fungal miconazole so often used for athlete’s foot! I have never been prescribed that for Behçet’s ulcers. Eumovate is good as contains steroid. A stronger steroid is Synalar but advised do not use for more than one week.
Thank you Legomum. Just what I thought. I wasn’t comfortable using something which is primarily for fungal infection with added steroid alsonputting something in that area made me even mire nervous. It didn’t make sense because why treat me for something I don’t have. Have gone back to the original cream my behcets consultant prescribed. And think I need to be cautious when GP decides on my meds related to behcets I guess they just don’t have the right level of knowledge.

If you had the time and energy you could write to your GP and enclose this factsheet leaflet about treatment from Behçet’s UK charity That way the GP surgery will have a reference for next time and may think twice before prescribing something different to that the specialist recommended. (There is a possibility they took a swab and found fungal infection to treat, but they should have told you if so and sought your consent to treatment with a new medication?!)

Also, be advised Ande78 that Prof Farida Fortune, from the London CoE, is wishing to draft some guidelines and tips (maybe a Factsheet) on this matter once she has perfected a treatment she is working on - similar to the one she recommends (invented, I understand, that 'others' might have 'cribbed from') for oral ulcers - what is termed 'triple mouthwash'.

Never heard of D. Since I was first prescribed a Fluticasone spray by the immunologist I have never looked back. It’s a spray for asthma, but for Behcet’s is used topically. Works really well. Spray at the first ‘tingling’ sign.

Hi, the only thing I’ve been given is synalar ointment. Works a treat at bringing things back under control. Also for me colchicine to prevent them in the first place. Best wishes
