I have noticed my nail has started to pit and indent, and during the last couple of months it has reached the nail bed and is now affecting the skin below the cuticle. Not only that, but now I have a strange streak on my little finger as if I have poked down my nail with something and caused a tiny injury! I mentioned the slight pitting at my last appointment with the rheumatologist and he suggested I had possibly trapped it or damaged it in some way. Well, I assured him that to cause my nail to be this way would have required a good old wallop. Also, the fact it would have had an almighty bruise. Absolutely nothing transpired. I do believe I would have known had this been the case. It may be nothing but I have heard that nails can be a good indicator of something amiss within the body. However, I do appreciate my body is already below par having Behcet’s. I did wonder if it was yet another manifestation of autoimmunity?

I have taken virtually exactly the same photo of one of my nails for my next appointment.
The thing is hard to see like yours , but it was perfectly round and more like a blood blister.
Before the bubble arrived , I had had a real feeling of swelling in the top of my finger for a day , like you do when you used to get those little Wicklow as a child .
It also felt like my nail was being pushed off the bed.
I have already got alot of nail issues , which they looked at with interest but haven't addressed ( but then they still haven't finished my diagnosis!!!)
My thumbs and one finger have mishaped yellow nails like psoriasis. Other nails are becoming spooned or clubbed , and since those little blood spots started six months ago , I have had one nail that again felt like it had pulled from the bed , it got a dark pink Stripe with a bright white one below but unfortunately broke off before I could photograph it.
Many of the sufferers on here seem to have similar issues , it would be good to know from someone who has it managed as part of their Behcets what their doctors say and how they are usually helped.
They are difficult to see, but I totally understand where you are coming from regarding your description. The indent isn’t so easy to spot unless you hold it at a certain angle. I know this is not due to damage from an external source - as is the case with the funny blood streak within the nail. Who knows? I am due for a revisit to the rheumatologist this month - I shall pursue it further. And yes, it would be good to know from someone that has it wether or not it is an indicator of yet another malady or, part of having an autoimmune disorder.
Also, I am sorry to hear you are still without a definite diagnosis. What a job it all is. How much more evidence is truly needed? It’s such a drag...with or without a diagnosis, it doesn’t help the fact it’s all a bit ‘pap’

I think I need to get a message written from God miraculously appear across my forehead at my next appointment stating ,
" For the love of everything sane , prescribe the medication already !!"
I get that you have to rule out other causes as I have a number of Neuro and Gastric reactions going on too , and have unfortunately not been able to train my mouth to pop out an ulcer for appointment day ( although the head Prof has seen the photos and said they are right!) but I have ticked virtually all the boxes now in photos and symptoms , so maybe a celestial message is what I need next!!
I shouldn’t laugh but I love your dry humour. And yes, I truly understand your utter frustration!
Speaking of digestive issues- strangely enough, I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy last month to check nothing Behcet’s going on in my digestive tract! Consultant Gastroenterologist said “looking healthy” That said,I still have intermittent problems both top and literally bottom! Now seeing a dietician! It’s never ending, is it! Sighing! When I can summon up the breath!
I get the red streaks and assume they are tiny splinter haemorrhages and just part of everyday bumps or Behçet’s. I don’t get any pits or indentations. This article is interesting... mdedge.com/ccjm/article/108...
