I have had a migraine since about 8am this morning (GMT) I have took paracetamol & ibuprofen but it's not working! I can't get any work done as the pain is terrible, any ideas on how to ease the pain?

Awww sweetie I totally sympathise with you the migraines and the mouth ulcers are the worst symptoms for me ☹️️I take brufen and co codamol and they sometimes don't work either ! The only thing I can do is lie down in a dark room with a cold pack or a flannel on my head and try to sleep,

I am so sorry for you Hun,

Love and hugs

Have you sought help from your GP or specialist centre for the migraine?

I have Wegener's Vasculitis &, after having persistent moderate to severe headaches for over a week, I contacted Addenbrookes Hosp where I attend the Vasculitis clinic. They immediately sent me for a CT scan & later, when the headaches persisted, for a head MRI.

Over some months I kept a Headache Diary & this was enormously helpful in describing my symptoms to the medics.

After monitoring my condition for some time the Adds Neurology Dept concluded that the headaches were of migraine origin, not Vasculitis affecting my brain. That was a relief!

I was put on an anti-migraine drug, called Amitriptlyine, at the lowest dose, & it has worked wonders.

A good side effect is that I sleep very well at night as, in small doses, this drug is prescribed by GPs, in very low doses, for insomnia! In large doses they prescribe it for depression!

I understand that, as a side effect, Co-Codamol in largish, regular doses is addictive & can even, eventually, cause headaches itself so be aware of this. Coming off can take time & be callenging.

Hope this helps a little as living with persistent headache is extremely difficult.

Many on here have the headaches of Behcets and literally feel your pain.. I had horrible headaches and was prescribed gabapentin. (I don't think it worked for me). I tried with partial success wine and an Indica dominant cannabis strain. Desperate times called for desperate measures. I feel for you and hope you can find something. Head to the doctors and ask..

Total sympathy. I was suffering dreadfully with migraines and my doc put me on sumatriptan. They helped but not enough. I was eventually put on beta blockers and they have transformed my life. I still get a breakthrough headache now and again but sumatriptan deals more effectively with it. Careful consultation needs to take place before being prescribed bb's but in my case they gave me my life back. Good luck.

Amitryptaline worked for me too for a while, but I am now on azathioprine for good which has stopped most of my symptoms. Hope this helps.

I have been having problems with migraine type headaches for many years which has lead me to try some pretty wacky self help procedures out of desperation to ease the pain.

The most helpful thing i discovered one day while i was suffering badly was to pick up a large plastic bottle of soft drink that i had just got out of the fridge and while i was laying back on the sofa i placed the bottom of the bottle onto the bridge of my nose allowing my nose to slide between the knobbly bits on the bottom and placing the whole round part of the bottom firmly on the middle of my forehead !

To my surprise and delight i found the cold of the drink inside was easing the pain and the pressure of the heavy filled bottle right in the middle of my forehead was certainly helping as well. Lol.

Since then i have always kept a filled large bottle of water in the fridge where i can grab it at any first signs of a headache coming on and by relaxing with my slef help bottle method i usually have a great deal of success!

I am sure this looks quite amusing if anyone saw me holding this huge bottle on my head while laying back on the couch but who cares if it works ? I have also tried using hot water in the same method and also using the cold and hot bottle covered in a small towel as a roll on the back of my neck and that often helps as well.

I can only suggest you have a go at this cheap and unusual practice yourself and see if it helps you as much as it helps me ? Let me know if you have any success !

Take care all,

Bug hugs
