Had terrible pain in groin around pubic bone and testicles.possibly kidney infection still

Multiple sex partners in July in Gran canaria, I am a gay maniDoctor treated with ciprofoxen and says n pain and no sex for 5 months STD?

Dear laswalkirias59,

If the symptoms came on after your trip to Gran Canaria, then it's highly likely related to an STI. Unfortunately ciprofloxacin is unlikely to treat an STI and is more suited for a urine infection.

Really would strongly recommend you visit your local Sexual Health / GUM clinic. They are very well used to exactly this situation so no need to be embarrassed. It would also be very important to get tested for syphilis and HIV. bashh.org/clinics

Once treated we suggest avoiding sex for 1-2weeks not 5 months!

I have odd symptoms from about 2 months ago(pain around testicles and groin and foul smelling urine) and just put up with it until i expreienced extreme groin pain 10 days ago. Could untreated stds cause symptoms 5 months later?

I feel embarassed goung to clinic not having told them of early symptoms months ago!!!!

Will they not treat me as my GP has given me course of antibiotics last week(which have not worked) and still in pain now ?

And indeed it could be as simple as a urine infection. But a GUM clinic can check for that as well as the STIs. Most will be able to give you a provisional result within about 15mins.

It is very common for people to delay going due to embarrassment so no-one will criticise you.

Having already had some treatment won't stop them treating you but it could interfere with the test results. It would be best to be off antibiotics for at least 48hrs.

If you live in a larger city, some clinics run special gay men's clinics which you may prefer but any will be well used to dealing with this situation.
