Thrush?

I have been suffering with thrush like symptoms for 4 weeks now. It started off with itching but I also had UTI symptoms. I rang the GP who suggested taking pessary and cystitis sachets. These didn’t work so I rang up and was given antibiotics and an oral tablet for thrush. Things for better and the UTI symptoms improved but I still had the itching.

Back and forth, fast forward to last week, I did vaginal swabs to check for anything. It came back as clear of thrush but I had Group B Strep. I was given more antibiotics to try and clear and am now about to start day 5 of 7 of my antibiotics and the itching has become worse and has spread to the rectal area.

Anyone got any ideas? Its really getting me down now.

I urge you to seek specialist advice. It soynds like my symptoms which turned out to be lichen sclerosus. Apparently fairly common in menopausal women and treatment can keep things under control most of the time but it does not go away totally.

My GP didn't consider this and I spent 2to 4years untreated which left me structurally a different woman.

Good luck. 😊

Still worth asking for a specialist check. It'd be even worse for a younger woman to go undiagnosed

I’ve been trying for 2 weeks with the GP on and off. Seem to be getting no where though sadly x

I would advise a sexual health clinic visit. Group B strep is a commensal ( ie not a pathogen/disease causing ) and doesn't usually require treatment . The treatment may in fact cause candida in some women. However as Moo said, not all that itches is thrush and you should attend a clinic for a proper assessment.

I know - they said this but also said as I was having symptoms and swab results came back clear apart from Group B Strep... They decided to treat it anyway.I’ve tried but I feel like they are brushing me off a bit sadly

Sexual health clinic tests, taken and analysed immediately down the microscope as well as being sent away to the lab, are more accurate. I think that's your next port of call.

Thanks i’ll look into this. Its a struggle at the moment because of covid and getting appointments. No where actually wants to assess me its all done via phone call or self-swab which isn’t helpful

Sexual health clinics are still seeing patients when required . There may be telephone triage, best to check what your local service is doing, you might have to travel further afield to a larger centre if local services are restricted due to COVID.
