Hey guys, im 18 and ive been diagnosed with bv since first having unprotected sex with my new boyfriend & I've only just been treated for it by my doctor. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if having unprotected sex with him again after treatment could cause the infection to come back? Or would my body be used to his sorta type of bacteria by now? Or should i just use condoms? I dont want to get it again or spend amounts of money on the medication as it doesnt come cheap either lol. Could someone pretttty please help me as ive googled it already & literally nothing has come up. 😕 im very concerned

I am not sure what BV is? though if you are in the UK then there are somethings you can do, firstly you should go to your sexual health clinic, if it is a STI they are diagnosing you with then the treatment is normally free unless they are telling you "You can buy this and it will help", also as you are 18 there are some vaccines you can get for free but particularly helpful for you is Hep B (I believe as you are under 25 you can still get the Hep A vaccine) and the HPV vaccine (which may cover BV). If BV is part of the Herpes infection then there is no cure just your body will adjust so that the frequency between outbreaks and the severity of the outbreaks diminish.

One final point, you may well be in a relationship but you should still get yourself tested on a regular basis as fidelity is never guaranteed! Of course condoms will reduce the risk of catching most STI but that is a personal choice and as you are on here will assume that you are aware of the risks.

It may interest you to know that it is possible to buy generic PrEP for about £40 per months supply depending on your financial situation which would protect you against HIV, you can check out more on this at dean.st which is an excellent sexual health clinic to go to if you are in London.

Having done a little research you should take a look at nhs.uk/conditions/bacterial... If you get the antibiotics through a sexual health clinic then there is no charge as they prescribe them direct, if it is through your GP then you will be given a prescription so will have to pay the prescription charge unless you are on certain benefits.

As the condition can increase your risk of getting STI's then condoms are advised.
