14 year old with Red Itchy Skin and Rash in my Bikini Line. Please help me.

Hi,

About 2 weeks ago I developed red itchy skin around my vagina. I am 14 years old and I have never been in sexual contact with anyone. So no sex or oral or anything. It would not be an STD/STI unless someone else in my family has it and I contracted it through towels as we hang them very close to eachother in the bathroom. But my family is rather clean and healthy so no I would not think that either. Also, if that was the case, I think I would have developed the issue years and years ago, so not suddenly now.

The itching is in my panty line, so when you put underwear on, where the line of it sits next to your vagina. I tried sleeping without underwear for about a week to reduce the amount of irritation from pants, but it did not help. I am however continuing to remove my underwear at night.

I tried using nappy rash cream, but it did not help either. I tried organic products like creams (My family only uses organic toiletries, so no general shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deoderant or anything, only special organic products from special stores) but that didn't help either.

The itching gets worst some days, I sometimes just sit down on the toilet and itch it as it is just so bad. It hasn't bled or anything, but the surrounding skin next to the rashes had some peeling skin a few days ago.

I told my Mum about it last night, she told me that she would make some herbal tea to try and wash it with, it helped, so I will continue that. She did say that if it would not get better in the next few days, she would book me a doctors appointment.

I researched Herpes, but seeing as I have not had any sexual contact whatsoever, that would not be the case.

I would really appreciate if someone could help out, I am getting really worried and upset. I have anxiety so going to the doctor would be a blow at me, but I will have to if it does not get any better in the next 3 days.

Thank you so much to anyone who can help me out,

-Emese

Hi, I am sorry you are feeling so uncomfortable. Are you having any discharge? Ie whitish, thick? if so it could be that you have thrush. This is not sexually transmitted, but is a harmless fungal infection which is common, particularly in women. It would be worth getting some canasten hc ( antifungalwith a little steroid cream which you can get from any pharmacy) to put on and see if that settles it. If it continues it would be best to go see a doctor ( ideally a sexual health doctor even if it is not sexually transmitted as they are used to looking at that area) as it may be a skin condition. Hope that is of some help.

You can't get STIs from sharing towels or toilet seats or anything like that. They're called STIs for a reason, because they're sexually transmitted, so you don't need to worry :). They exception would be herpes as technically if the virus gets in a cut or something, say from a whitlow on someone's finger, it can be transmitted, but I barely count herpes as an STI anyway (and I have it). But anyway this doesn't sound like herpes or any other STI! My first thought was thrush but if it's around your bikini line it might be shaving rash or eczema. If you haven't already stop shaving and let your pubes roam free for a while, sounds gross but when you get older you'll stop caring anyway what you look like down there haha. If it's eczema the doctor will be able to give you hydrocortisone which will help and aqueous cream. Try and put loads of perfume free moisturiser on it, like aqueous cream or e45, might help. And try not to itch!!! Although I know this is hard. I'd say go to the doctors, and try not to worry, to them you're just a body, they'll have seen far worse and it's just a part of their job!!

I'm 14 and I've had this problem also and my mom told me it was probably a shaving rash (from shaving "down there") but it could also be from thighs rubbing together. I used a bikini soothing cream and payed down for a bit and it really helped

This sounds like a yeast infection. If it's just on your outer skin, we'll it could be a lot if thing causing it. But it's in the tissue in your vaginal area, it's probably a yeast infection. Monistat is an over the counter cream that is applied somewhat like a tampon. However, you could also have a Urinary Track infection (UTI) also called a bladder unfection.

Please see a doctor. Doctors are like machines. They do this all day and it's no big deal for them. They should treat you respectfully and will know pretty quickly what it is.
