How do you guys feel about your described diagnosis?

How do you guys feel about your described diagnosis?Happy

Do you deal with, improve or manage your condition?

It explains why I feel anxious about a lot of stuff so I could get better help but also allow me the freedom to act more like the way I want to e.g. being able to tell people I don't like food because of texture

How do your surroundings deal with you as a result?

It helped me understand why I feel bad about sounds etc

Hi Venusofthenorth.

I felt better understood though the first time the Psych told me (I’d been referred for something else) I burst into tears because it meant I couldn’t be fixed. It has helped me be kinder to myself, accept that I don’t have to do things because I’m not broken (180 turn from where I started!) and that I will still be learning about its effects over time.

I manage my condition but generally accept and work with it. If I need to spend an hour on the floor looking at the ceiling because I had an overwhelming day then so be it.

Not sure what you mean about surroundings: if work, then they accommodate pretty much, and at home I have designed spaces to my sensitivities.

I don’t have any strong behaviours that require management.

What about you?

I feel angry and grateful about being autistic, but that's largely because I accommodate surrounding expectations of me and have a hard time passing and being accepted in my signified autism. People often experience me as mean, offensive, negligent and irresponsible and not a lot of people have thorough or explicit dialogues with me about what's really going on. I've had to adjust and manage myself a lot regardless of whether it was justified or not, neurotypical peers judging thereof.
