Hi Donnybluewayne

I don't and have never driven so unfortunately I can't be of any help on this one. I am sure other people will answer though.

Like Harry I do not drive , but my son who has the SCA6 Gene and a very slight balance problem was told he could no longer have his motorcycle licence, and that as his symptoms became more advanced it would affect his driving licence and insurance, but as yet has no information on how it will be affected

Hope you get some answers to this though Razzy

Suspect it depends what type of Ataxia I have, wish I knew !

Cons said it would not affect my driving ability at all as sitting down I don't get affected, I suspect riding a motorcycle can possibly present other 'balance' problems. Tks guys.

It is a reportable condition so if you have a crash without telling the DVLA and your Insurers, you insurance could be invalidated.

Motor Bike - I always thought a Medical Terms for a

motorcyclist is DONOR!

I've just telephoned my insurance company (Swift) and actually had to persuade them to make a note of this on my policy.

There was no increase in the policy premium.

and so there shouldn't be , good, but DVLA insist you inform them, it is on their list of illnesses which they have to be notified of
