Did everyone receive their copy of the Ataxian last week? What did you think?

Just working on that as we type! I spoke to Sue Millman (Chief Executive of Ataxia UK) over the weekend and I am about to fire off an e-mail to make sure your details are changed and to arrange for you to be sent back copies of the Ataxian since you last received it.

Thanks for spotting that Nigel...

The missing words are "health service", so that the last section of the article should read:

"*Predicting ataxia*

Finally, research from Dr Paola Giunti, neurologist at the London Ataxia Centre, showed that people with autosomal recessive spastic ataxia of Charlevoix-Saguenay (ARSACS) have a thickened retinal nerve fibre layer in the eye. This is measured using a technique called optical coherence tomography (OCT) a possible new predictive test for the condition. Ataxia UK has just provided funding to Dr Giunti to study this further. If results are confirmed the technique could be introduced into the health service."

It was great catching up on all the news, quite a few new branches opened and it has been great reading about all the research going on.

I was pleased to see the results of the Sheffield Ataxia centre, and I have to admit that the results did not come as a surprise, as I have been really lucky in seeing Dr Hadjivassiliou since I was first diagnosed and my mind was put at ease from my first visit :D
