Hi all. Does anyone experience dryness of the mouth? If so is this a symptom of ataxia? Any solutions?

I had this problem. After seeing a speech therapist for other problems as well a dry mouth I now drink 9 small glasses of water a day.

The water intake works out at about 1.9 litres a day.

On top of that I have milk and coffee.

yes but mine is due to side effects of a drug .. I use Halls sugarfree cough sweets, the citrus ones which also help with occasional cough.

You can actually buy a mouth spray that helps with dryness. Check with your pharmacist. I don't know if a symptom of ataxia, as I drink a lot of water each day! My best to you..., ;o)

Hi. You could perhaps see your GP? Many drugs have dry mouth as a side effect (if you are on any). And there are other conditions which cause it and can be picked up by blood tests e.g. under active thyroid, and then treated. Sucking sweets (like Skittles for example) can help, although not good for your teeth 😉
