What do you do for work?

Currently I don’t work but I want to. I’m having trouble identifying what I still have to offer.

I have trouble holding a pen. I can type but I’m not that fast. If I talk to much I begin to slur by the end of the day. I still feel like I have something to offer though but I’m having trouble figuring out what.

Why not advertise at local shop, typing letters etc 😀👍

I have done volunteer activity online for a cause I feel strongly about. It suited me as I cannot do much at all but can sit and be there, reading snippets, little bit of typing, fact checking and notifying others. It kept me mentally occupied and useful.

Found something I was very interested in, just added my thoughts on the page and the tone was right and they needed someone, having lots of time was a positive. I have no idea how you would approach any group? Look at your interests perhaps? Local groups may need someone to keep an eye on a FB page or maybe put your free availability in a local shop window, or as suggested above, just availability? Maybe do admin for a local sports group? Proof read a parish magazine? It all helps community and what I did really helped me, being useful and being occupied. There may be people local to you who might help find something you could do? Hope that gives answers?

You’re not alone. I used to be a PA.... May be the volunteering work for the charity would be more sympathetic and have other opportunities for you? X

I still have a job but have been on the sick since last December. I would love to return to work but it takes everything I have left to get though the day.

I could not cope with going back to work.

I haven't worked since a well known charity that finds jobs for disabled people made me redundant 9 years ago..

Now, once a week I volunteer at a local art museum as a gallery steward - love it! (You can just sit there and watch things if you're having a bad day).

Hi scrumdidly I’m just coming to the end of a 3 1/2 year homeopathy course. It’s hard work retraining with lots of homework but it’s worth it. There’s lots of things you could be good at . Counselling, herbalism, nutrition etc. Once you have qualified you can work the hours you want to, and you sit down while you work. I think volunteering can be great but don’t feel that you can’t get a paid job because you can , we can all find something . There were some amazing people at the ataxia conference who work incredibly hard despite their disabilities
