Hi everyone I haven't posted for a while. But I was kind of wondering if you can drink coffee with ataxia and high sugar levels.

Hi AnneMenzies

There is no medical reason why you shouldn’t drink coffee if you have ataxia. Again high sugar levels do not preclude you from having coffee, as long as you don’t add sugar to it.

Best wishes

Hi AnneMenzies, I have just found out I have a variant on the PNKD gene. Coffee, tea, chocolate and coke, all contain methylglyoxal. In PNKD the body cannot get rid off this so it is high and causes muscle spasms etc. I think SCA27 May have something to do with PNKD, I have cut down on tea, coffee and chocolate, and my muscle twitching seems to have calmed down slightly. Try not having any and see if it makes any different to you, everyone is different, all the best.
