I have been receiving Support for Mortgage Interest - benefit since 2014 and it is ending on April 5, 2018. Are any of you affected? and what are you doing about it?

Doing Nothing. Letting SMI end. We will get a letter from Serco (inefficient contractors) inviting SMI recipients to convert to LMI, before SMI ends. Suspect they will need a reply. Only get SMI to cheese off DWP. But you knew that.

Very few people are getting SMI. 39 week delay is a killer. And you have to apply for SMI, despite writing for months on forms that am paying mortgage. DWP do not act on this notification. DWP will back date SMI. About 150,000 people are getting SMI. The saving to government is minuscule as interest rate set at 2.61% and eligibility is onerous. Everyone should apply to DWP, even if the applicant is unsuccessful.

SMI is in addition to other payments and should not effect them. Let us see what happens next April 2018.

Hi Amynah. My SMI is stopping next week as my pension credit has been stopped all because I failed on my PIP assessment. I have done the "Mandatory Reconsideration" and sit with baited breath... waiting for the reply...

I have contacted my lender straight away and explained the situation. They were very helpful. You can take out a loan from DWP so that you still get the SMI. On the reverse of the letter they show all the calculations.

Good Luck D
