Feeling faint on standing.

I have had a relaxing day and thought to do the housework slowly, however whenever I went to stand up after bending down, I felt a bit faint (but didn't pass out). Took deep breaths to increase the oxygen to the blood and made sure I took little and often snacks and plenty of fluids throughout the day.

Is this another symptom of Ataxia and does anyone else have it? A bit worrying as I don't usually have this symptom.

Hi PGee

The symptoms you are describing could suggest that your blood pressure is lowering when you move from a sitting to standing position-known as postural hypotension.  I would advise making an appointment with your GP to get your blood pressure checked.

In the meantime, if this continues, make sure you stand slowly from a sitting/lying position, always hold onto something when doing so and don't move off quickly.

Best wishes

Harriet

Thank you for sharing that advice with me Harriet.   I will share the information with the Doctor.... awaiting results of MRI so hope to see him/her soon.    Thanks again.

HI PGee

Agree with HarryB

I have MSA and this is one of the symptoms postural Hypotension ( basically blood pressure drops drastically) I now stand from sitting or lying down by gently standing and taking a little breather before trying to walk.

Very good advice but we are slow doing everything so it could easily just be getting up to quickly  and I am also very food orientated. Much better if full tummy! Having things checked though will stop the worry : )

Dear Litty,  Thanks for your advice!  We share something in common!!!  I will get it checked though.  Thanks again.

Hi, i have ataxia and do not have those symptoms, have you had your blood pressure checked at all as posture change can cause this when your BP is low....Eileen..

I had the BP checked the other month, all seemed well then.  This is new symptom so will keep notes.  Thank you.

Hi PGee,

Most likely just a low blood pressure issue, have it checked with GP, but it's nothing to worry about, just uncomfortable.

Thanks MBubble.  I hope so!  Had it checked the other doctor's visit and all seemed fine.

Could be side affect of prescription and ataxia. Do not be surprised when GP finds nothing unusual. Have learnt to live with it. Some days less dizzy.

FFNick, currently not taking any prescription - will start tomorrow. I will keep notes as I am seeing the Doctor again in about 2 weeks.   Thanks.
