Dear Flealing, I have a balance vest and, although it's not a cure for ataxia, it does help my balance a bit and makes me feel more secure. The website is "BalanceWear", which will give you a lot of information. I still use my cane when I leave my home, even while wearing my vest. A physical therapist, trained in BalanceWear has to evaluate/fit you (place small weights inside the vest in appropriate places for your needs). Cindy Gibson-Horn is a pt that invented the vest. Shelves and has a practice in California. Many states now have pt's that are trained in BalanceWear, although I'm not sure about Europe (I live in the USA, in the State of Michigan). My dexterity is better (writing/printing )while I'm wearing the vest and there's some residual effect for a while when I take it off. The vest I have is lightweight black material and zips up the front. I not sure if they now have any other styles. Hope this information has been helpful to you..., ;o)

Right. I know it is made in CA in the USA but is now being sold in Denmark. I do not have one. Check out Motion Therapeutics on Google.

Ataxia UK's advice regarding balance vests is that people should be cautious about buying them. To our knowledge they haven't been subject to rigorous independent scientific testing by our scientific or clinical ataxia research community which has been peer reviewed in the normal way, and we have had mixed anecdotal reports of its value from people with ataxia that we have heard from.
