Hi everyone. I've just joined the forum, looking to make new connections and friends, seek support, learn new things and hopefully share my experiences, support, help and friendship.
I went to the Ataxia U.K conference on Saturday and whilst having a great day l also met some truly amazing people. Having never met anyone with Ataxia ever, it was good to feel accepted and not different or odd and also to learn new things about my condition.

Dear Bev, A HUGE welcome to this site! You'll find wonderful people on here for support and understanding! I live in the US (State of Michigan) and, like you, had never met anyone else with ataxia until I attended a conference through the National Ataxia Foundation (NAF) here in the US a couple years ago. In fact, I had never heard of ataxia when I was diagnosed eleven years ago. I'm also on the Living With Ataxia (through Bens Friends) site here, you may want to check it out. You are not alone in your journey...,;o)
Hi Bev. Tell us about the content of the conference. As you say what a relief to be able to meet, discuss and hear some interesting presentations.
I am newly diagnosed and live in South Africa so no chance of a conference here.
A question. Does a persistent cough and chocking at times go with the condition?
It would help more if you let people know where you are. I am in Dorset. I could not go this year. There are various support groups available through the Ataxia UK website.

Your not to far away from me..I'm in Enfield ..do you go to any ataxia meetings I think my nearest is nothing London..I think that's what they are called..I have not been to one yet..I know the next one I'd on Saturday coming..I might go and see if I get any answers and it will be nice to talk to people..I haven't spoke or don't know anyone with the condition x
I think the nearest one to me is in Dover. I'd never met anyone till I went to the Ataxia conference either. There used to be one in Rochester but it's not there any more. Might be nice to meet others. X
