Rollator

My balance is much worse today and I have decided to buy a rollator, but which one to buy? I have no knowledge of them and would welcome ideas. It must be quite lightweight and folds up to go in a car. Thank you.

I generally prefer 4 rather than 3_wheeler, but find them cumbersome to steer. The front wheel(s) catch every paving stone and the back wheels are just where I need to put my feet.

They help balance when you walk. It is three or four wheels and some have a seat which is good for me ! X

My rollator is lightweight, easy to fold, has 4 wheels and a seat. It's called Lets Go Out

by Trust Care. I bought it from Amazon.

coopers do one that is lightweight and folds up to go in the car- it costs abdout £40 but I could not go out on my own before I had it

See your practice nurse and you will be pointed to a rehabiitation dept who will advise. Do not buy from some upmarket medical suppliers who will sell you something overpriced and incorrect. In my area aids can be obtained for free so just ask, don't listen to outdated recommended places they got theirs from. Take care.

Try before you buy (even if you don't buy through that establishment) and if your gait is bad/wide get a gait specific one.

In UK called wheeled walkers. Can be adjusted for height. Locking brakes are useful. Found one pre-owned on local Buy and Sell Facebook group, then one turned up on Freecycle.

Seat and storage bag useful. Folds flat. Wheels designed for indoor use. 4 wheels with brake on rear two. Some people have two, one indoors and for one outdoor use kept in car. Found supermarket trolleys ideal height to start with. Try before you buy sounds good.

Occupational Therapist may be able to advise and help. Approached through GP. Salesman may have ulterior motive.

Hi I've had quote a few over the years so I'm quite knowledgable ... Different walkers for different terrain. At the moment I'm using a topro for indoors & the car. It folds up nicely .. It's quite light but it's sturdy & probably the best one I've had. It is about £150 but so worth it I've bought cheaper ones in the past but I feel they are not worth looking at . The other one is a nitro similar price really stable folds up but this one has bigger wheels so it's better out doors over gravel etc excellent over grass both have seats and a basket... Both are 4 wheeled (3 wheeled ones are useless.for ataxians) hope this helps x
