Fludrocortisone

I have ataxia and low blood pressure. I was prescribed fludrocortisone, which only gives me vertigo, to add to my current balance problems. Has anyone else encountered this stuff?

Hi nettles1

Thank you for your question. I am afraid I have no personal experience of fludrocortisone. However If you are having prolonged side effects to any medication (dizziness and a spinning sensation can be a side effect of fludrocortisone), particularly if they are unpleasant to you, I would advise speaking to your GP and discuss if there is another medicine you could try instead.

Best wishes

Hi there,

I'm familiar with this stuff as I take every morning but not for ataxia for Addison's disease!

In my case it provides one of the functions my adrenal glands no longer do. I take it alongside hydrocortisone for the other.

I think one of its functions is to balance salts/electrolights in the body such as sodium/potassium.

I think it would be well worth your while speaking to your doctor to explain your issues and maybe why it's been prescribed.

Sorry my guess is it's for your low blood pressure as I believe this can be a side affect of Addison's
