Hello Jrobinson

I have idiopathic cerebellar ataxia and I get dizzy in the car. I find it hard to focus on any screen. In fact any sudden movement or change of direction makes me unstable. I would say that ataxia can make you dizzy.

Take care

Hi Jrobinson, I was diagnosed ten years ago with Sporadic "idiopathic" Cerebellar Ataxia (unknown cause). My balance is really compromised. I have a difficult time walking (I use a cane) and looking side to side without losing my balance. In other words, I can't multitask with my movements. I don't get dizzy riding in a car, but have heard others mention dizziness. Have you been told you have nystagmus of your eyes (movement back and forth, or up and down)?. I don't have this, but many people with ataxia do. I would imagine this could cause dizziness. My best to you..., ;o)

I want to thank everyone who replied. It is still a learning experience for me. I must admit it was good to finally get a diagnosis of atoxia. It is one of those things that at first you just think that it is age catching up, then once you start to know something is wrong it is hard to really explain it to people. But once you have the conformation, you can explain it to people and learn to adjust. It also explained many of my other problems from an early age like being really bad at sports and having to go thru speech theropy all thru school. The Drs think that I have always had it but now it has started manifesting itself strongly. I do kind of wish I had known about it back then, it would have helped with my self pride at times, but i am glad to know now. Thanks again for your answers, it means allot to me.
