COVID and Asthma

Hello all, my son has recently tested positive for covid and I know I’m bound to get it soon.

So I was wondering if anyone that has asthma and caught covid been eligible for the two special treatments from the GP?

Only asking because I read something about it on asthma UK and I’m kind of looking ahead so I know my opinions if I get it.

Thank you. X

I caught it in August and for me it had little impact on my asthma, I even got a rescue pack from the docs just in case but didn't need it.

Hi, sorry to hear that your son has tested positive. I hope he is not too sick. I am one week in to having tested positive. I had the letter to say I was eligible for the new treatments but then when I had the triage/prescription phone all I was told that respiratory conditions are not eligible. I was actually asked why I thought I was on the list - I said because I believed my immune system was compromised by the amount of steroids I’ve had in the past year. There was no getting through the gatekeeper for me!

In terms of covid itself - every day has been different and I have had a whole range of symptoms. I have not had any severe symptoms yet where I have needed to seek medical guidance or help. I’m hoping it’s a case of sitting it out and that ultimately it will actually strengthen my immunity. The virus doesn’t seem to follow any patterns and is very different in different individuals from my own experience. Take care.

Thank you, He isn’t too bad at the moment so fingers crossed!

Yes it seems like one person tells you one thing while the other tells you different, I suppose this medicine is all new to them and I don’t even think they know who is eligible for it. But I completely agree with you, us asthmatics should definitely be able to access it.

Im glad to hear that covid hasn’t been too severe for you and I do hope you get better very quickly, Id say you are though the worst of it now.

Yes, it is the uncertainty of the unknown, like you said every one is different, I’m a worrier anyway but hopefully soon we all build an immunity to it.

Thank you for your reply.

Take care x

I just had covid. It was very kind and had no impact on my asthma. If you are interested in the new meds it’s best speak to gp direct but honestly I think that if you can fight it off with your own natural immunity, that would be better.

I got it in 2020 and had tight lungs but it just felt like a normal asthma flare. I so hope you get a mild version if you get it! Fingers crossed for you!!
