Blood blisters in mouth from inhaler

Hi everyone! Having a very bizarre side effect of what I think is being caused by my steroid inhaler! Has anyone experienced blood blisters in their mouth? I just have a very small one on the roof of my mouth.... 😬!!

Whilst it can only be diagnosed after a biopsy you may have Angina Bullosa Haemorrhagica. Or oral blood blisters.

I get blood blisters in my mouth also extremely painful until they burst then about two weeks until they heal.

Said that they ‘could’ be due to my inhaled steroids.

Yes! You're the first person I've seen to mention blood blisters in the mouth. I used to get them mainly in/on the soft tissue at the back of my mouth/ throat. All it would take would be a little scratch from a crisp, crusty bread and once a poke from a fish bone which rapidly produced a golf sized blood blister dangling down from the top. It was horrible. Particularly as it was a posh dinner to meet my son's future parents in law. I had to discreetly excuse myself letting them think I'd swallowed a fish bone rather than choking on a massive blood blister. My only option was to burst it & fast. My poor son was horrified.

Anyway, I was just learning to live with the problem when my inhaler was changed from Seretide. I've not had them at all since being on Fostair, about 3/4 years so it had to be tge Seretide. It was a good move all round because not only did the problem go away my extremely fragile skin also improved immensely.

Hope this helps. P

Oh nooo!! That sounds awful!! 🤦🏼‍♀️😬That’s the thing...they aren’t like a mouth ulcer!!

Interesting about the inhaler...I am actually on Fostair 200 and have been on that for a couple of years. This is first time I have had this but one thing I haven’t been doing which I usually do is gargling with water after my inhaler. Will start doing that again!!!

Yes might be a good idea. In fact I'm in the habit of wetting my mouth and throat before inhalers then a thoroughly good gargle afterwards. Proper blood blisters full of blood, once they'd burst very sore for about a week. Hope you get sorted. P

I am on Fostair and always rinse my mouth out but I get these blood blisters too. It usually happens when I’ve eaten something with a sharp edge - bread crusts / crisps etc. I’ll try the wetting the mouth before the inhaler. They are such a pain - literally! Thanks for sharing.

Yes I get them regularly with and without trauma.

Yes! I’m on fostair and I get blood blisters regularly on the roof of my mouth after eating. I’ve been religiously writing down all the ingredients and seen no pattern but it never occurred to me that it could be the inhaler causing it.

Hi! I’ve actually just had a follow up after bloods were taken three weeks ago, as I’ve started having these too! I was fairly sure it was from the steroid inhaler, and even more so after reading this now.

This was the first one that appeared.
