Reducing pred - too fast?

Hi all,

I'm finally getting over my chest? infection, my asthma has gone back to grumpy rather than screaming tantrum and i've started reducing the pred (yippee!). However, I'm struggling a bit with fatigue and energy crashing in the late afternoon/evening, feeling a bit feeble and emotional too. It's entirely possible this is just another long covid relapse (infection march 2020) rather than related to reducing the pred but I wonder whether my GPs plan to reduce is perhaps a bit fast?

I was put on 30mg on 8 Jan and upped to 40mg 4th-14th Feb. The plan to reduce is to drop 5 mg every 4th day which I started on 14th Feb? I'm on 25mg as of today.

Thanks!

You mean steorids with pred? If so it's the same when I got down on them. Very tired and no energy LOL 😋 total normal. It will take a bit of time to get back to normal, maybe a day or two. But it should be alright. If you struggling to much definitely get in touch with your GP, it's never wrong. You take care and stay safe and warm 🍀🍀🍀🍀

Just to be annoying its plausible to be bit of both 🥴. Long covid effects for some last a long time and every time your body fights something its triggers some kind of autoimmune response that sets you back a little. But also normal for pred. So I would contact gp explain how your feeling and they may slow the process down. I do think long covid in my case anyway makes me much more sensitive to anything. X

Thanks, it's my 11 month coronaversary today 🥴, definitely the gift that keeps on giving! I've got a call back booked later today - woke up struggling to breathe again last night so definitely need something adjusting 😔.

Hi Glty- I can relate. I had a flare starting Dec. 26 2020 (not covid-related) and started on 40mg Prednisone. I tried to get down a few times only to go back up. Now I'm finally down to 20mg. My doc wanted me to go down 5mg every 3 days (when I was at 35mg) till I get to 10, then stay there for a week or two and then we'll take it slower from there. I found the 3 days for me was a bit fast so I actually went down the 5 mg every 4 days and used a bit more Ventolin on the days I stepped down. I would just say that now that you've been on for a few months you should consider (and discuss w/your GP) taking it slower at the end,,,,Hoping you can get off this dreadful cycle! Best of luck and feel better. (ps-i'm on most everything - Symbicort, montelukast, QVAR...I'm in the US)
