Hot AC issues?

Hi y'all,

My SO has pretty mild asthma, she usually uses the inhaler every couple of weeks due to coughing episodes.

One thing that really bothers her is AC turned to heating mode. It immediately makes her "lungs hurt", and causes difficultly breathing.

I think I've heard about different "air filtering" tricks that might help, but couldn't find anything about it online. Did anybody here experience any issues like that? Any solutions and advise would be greatly appreciated, it's pretty cold here.

Thanks!

I was in a hotel and the air-conditioning was the only thing to heat the room but turning it on threw out loads of dust and I couldn't breathe pretty quickly after turning it on ..... does she have a dust allergy? ....AC does seem to throw out tons of dust ive been in a shopping centre and had the same issue stood under the outlet for the heating system and could feel the dust attacking my nose and eyes.... I started having trouble breathing then too

AC is very drying, as well as a dust circulator. Keeping the humidity up (35% to 40%) is as important as tackling the dust by filter. Low humidity can dry out the respiratory membranes which will irritate them and can lead to inflammation and maybe infection because of the inflammation. The AC manufacturer should be able to give advice on filters or the other option is to buy a separate, stand alone air purifier.
