Covid jab/Reslizumab

Hi,having Covid jab tomorrow,I’m currently on reslizumab and still on steroids, was wondering if anybody else is on these meds and had any problems.

My asthma team at Brompton have said it will be ok as long as it’s a week before or after my reslizumab, but I’ve got a feeling when I turn up for jab at my local clinic they may question my treatment

If it helps I’m on benralizumab and kenalog (IM steroids) and I got my COVID vaccine. They were more concerned with my allergy history than my steroid/MAB.

If RBH have okay’d it you should be fine.

Thanks,I don’t suffer with any allergies so hopefully will be ok,on the subject of benralizumab is it working for you.I have been on mepo which didn’t work and think they may be stopping resi this month as have had 12 doses but still can’t get below 20mg of pred ,my base line without mabs is 30-40mg of pred which I’ve been on for last 10 years, they mentioned benralizumab as next option

Thanks mark

I had mepolizibub and it was great for 8 months or so then it stopped working I’ve been on resi for 12 months and it really hasn’t done much for me, havnt really noticed any difference since I’ve been on it, although I’ve been able to get my pred down to 9mg a day (used to be on 20-30mg)

They’ve now stopped resi and consultant said it’s not been strong enough for me so their going to put me on the benra but I’ve got to wait for them to discuss my case. When I stopped the mepo it was near 2-3 months before I was put on the resi

Best of luck

Mike

Hi,thanks for that, sounds just like my case although they started me on resi as soon as my mepo stopped, although down to 20mg lowest I’ve Been for 10years they said should be lower, hopefully benralizumab will work better

Good luck anyway Mark

For me benra has dramatically reduced admissions and made them a lot more manageable. However because it doesn’t work on my allergic asthma (I also have raised IgE) I got a lot of issues last summer which is what led to the IM steroids. Pre-hay fever season last year I got down to 2.5mg pred

I'm not on a mab for asthma but as regards other meds I'm on constant steroids - the questions were about allergies and if I was on blood thinners. So the steroids weren't a concern at all.

I've not heard of it before as a general thing - it might just be related to their own awareness for administering the vaccine.

Hi mate . No I was on xolair for 12 months and mepolizumab for 18 months both with limited success.. and able to reduce my prednisone from 30mg daily to 10mg .. since being on the benralizumab, now 12 months, it’s been great I’m down to 5mg now but have had to stop tapering because of adrenal issues and low cortisol . I’m awaiting a referral to an endocrinologist..

Sounds great to me, when they put me on the mepo I felt an instant improvement a couple of hrs later , I felt like a new person, got down to 5 mg pred from 30mg daily didn’t need any salbutamol it was great but after about 8 doses it stopped working unfortunately the resli didn’t do anything except get my pred down to 9 mg daily but still felt a bit rough

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the benra will improve my symptoms

Good luck

Stay safe 👍🏻

Hi , been travelling to Brompton last 3 years myself been driving since lockdown ( keeping off the underground) only 8 miles for me but can take 1 1/2-2 hrs by the time they book me in and do preliminary checks then have infusion ca be away from home around 6-7 hrsI appreciate nhs and the treatment I’m receiving but infusion only takes 25 mins , it’s a bit frustrating waiting around, I would much rather administer myself by injections
