Phone consult with Chest Consultant

ā€¢9 Replies

Finally got to speak with my chest consultant yesterday, who I last saw 11yrs ago. Poor bloke sounded SO tired, bless him, bet his hospital is beginning to fill up with more Covid CasesšŸ™. He agreed with me that my asthma had been sliding downhill, given an extra push by a recent viral chest infection which gave me a mucous cough for nearly 7 weeks until Pred tablets put the brakes on! Going to try me on Relvar, and also adding in Incruse Ellipta as I am so short of breath. Also to keep taking the Montelukast which I have just started on 25th Sept. He will phone me again in 6 to 8 weeks to see if things have improved. He did say he has a "Plan B" if required. I hope he stays safe and well. He's a good Consultant and a nice man to talk to!

Can we clone him?! I love the fact that he's keeping tabs on you and has a plan B. Good luck and I hope you feel much better soon.

Thats great you've got someone who is willing to actually help. Im still coughing 9 weeks down the line and none of my gps or practice nurses are sure what to do with me.

Waiting for a respiratory apt but prob wont be for another 4 weeks.

Will follow and see how you go. Do report back!

Hi figroll. I was explaining to my consultant that I had never, in 63yrs, had a cough like it! Some days it felt like I was drowning in phlegm, am still having to spit stuff out( SO NOT LADYLIKE) weeks down the linešŸ™„. You do wonder if there is a virus doing the rounds closely related to Covid19?? Just moving round the house is tiring.

I do wonder about that too.

There are always hundreds of viruses about, they haven't gone away, so it is highly likely you have had some non-covid viral thing. Like with flu epidemics, everyone thinks every illness is flu because "it's going round". But so are all the other viruses, always.

It's ok, I get you about the drowning bit. That's how I've described it to the practice nurse. I've had a covid test just to make sure. It's not covid - still coughing a lung up! fingers crossed you get sorted.

Hi figroll. I had a negative Covid swab test, but weeks after I started coughing & only cos my surgery insisted I get one done. As my temperature was always normal and my taste & smell were both fine, plus it was a "wet" cough, I didn't think one was required. Took hours of computer and phone time to organise it.
