Reactive airways disease

Hi all!

I have an asthma diagnosis of some 20 years!

Recently my lungs have become so irritated and inflamed with a dry cough, that my GP is suggesting ‘respiratory airway disease’!

I don’t have a wheeze or productive cough etc! None of the asthma meds seem to touch it!

This is a rather vague diagnosis and not much on any website about it ! It does seems to overlap with many lung conditions!

Anyone else have this, as a diagnosis and how is it treated!

any thoughts most welcome x

I don’t know much about it, Spadehadle, but my understanding of it is that it is an illness that mimics asthma, but it does not respond to usual asthma treatments. I thought, but could be wrong, that it is caused by exposure to some kind of chemical.

I can’t be of more help than that, which is probably no help at all!

Yes!

That’s my understanding!

Well I’m finally being investigated, so fingers crossed there’s a treatment out there !

Are they saying you have never had asthma or is this in addition to it?

GP hasn’t said I do not have asthma!

I think possibly in addition to asthma, I have reactive airways and possibly a few other lung issues going on maybe! That’s just me guessing at the moment.

I’m in the early stages of a diagnosis etc so hopefully in the next few weeks I’ll get some answers!

I’m really hoping for a respiratory consultant referral!

I hope the referral comes through quickly for you Spadehandle. It’s awful when they hint at something and don’t explain it to you.
