How is your asthma in lockdown?

I have seen a drastic improvement in mine, both when signed off and in lock down as I can better avoid triggers (albeit not the smoker downstairs who seems to let smoke waft into the stairwell from outside, despite signs up from other tenants).

The situation is awful overall, but I've taken a small silver lining in that - for once - I am well. I feel like a new person.

Glad you’ve had an improvement ☺️

I’m frustrated with my lungs... this is one of my slowest limbos ever because I’m not doing the usual triggers I would do normally (like walk to bus etc)! I’m maxed out on meds, not great but not quite bad enough for hosp 🤦‍♀️. Very much hating on pollen which is enough to severely irritate my lungs but not quite enough so that the hosp will give me the treatment I need to calm it down 😒🤦‍♀️ (grumble grumble! If it wasn’t for hayfever me and puff and wheeze would be very happy rn 😂)

Oh no. I've seen around the forums that you have a bit of a time of it. Pollen is insidious, well worth a grumble. It's so frustrating when you're *just* under threshold.

My chest's been largely rubbish. I've tried blaming stress, infection, weather, and tree pollen. Not sure what it is but I don't think shielding helps, and I've just had a letter extending that to August. I need my life back, even with all its limitations, but it's not going to happen any time soon.

ps sorry, Paradigm, I'm genuinely pleased things have picked up for you! x

August! I thought my date of 30 June was bad enough. There will be a very deranged person here if it goes on to August. At my age ever year is a bonus and I’m missing one.

No need to be sorry - I did ask, after all. I find it so frustrating when I can't tell what the cause is, even when I definitely can't do squat about it. Infection seems to hit me the hardest.

Hi,aww that sounds good that it’s been improved for you!

Like the others, mine has really not been great...not bed enough for hospital but on steroids and antibiotics. Taking max doses too before hospital!

What’s even more frustrating is that due to Covid, even though I am diagnosed with severe/brittle asthma...my consultant has gone and chucked me out of clinic because of the backlog. I’m not impressed!!! Letter said my GO can refer me back but it’s just not helpful...especially as at the moment,I’m struggling even more!

Sorry rant over! But I am cross with them!

That’s great news!

I’m really struggling at the moment. I normally have mild asthma and never really have a problem with it unless I have a cold. But the past 6 weeks have been pretty bad. I’ve tried everything; steroids, a new inhaler, 2 lots of antibiotics and now I’m on montelukast. I’m taking my reliever every day. Getting fed up with it all! Don’t know what to do next!

That's great - every cloud & all that.

I had a virus in Feb/March just as things were getting very Covid aware so I had already been isolating when the lock down began, along with tree pollen season. It's been years since I had a reaction to pollen but this year was bad.

So I've wheezy & sneezy since mid Feb. Just beginning to feel a bit better...but will have to see next week when weather is warmer if things go backwards again.

I'm enjoying lock down in some ways as I don't have to explain why I can't meet up etc. I hate letting people down if we've made plans.

I've discovered new & different ways to keep in touch - how lucky are we that we have the technology to make sure our friends and loved ones are well, in good spirits and catered for. If this pandemic had happened 20 years ago, isolation would have been tougher on many more. And now I'm signed up for online services from my GP, my prescription requests are dealt with really quickly and we have e-consultations too. Great service given the current situation.

Take care and stay safe everyone.

I've noticed my asthma is pretty rubbish. Perhaps it may be down to the fact that when I'm working I just get on with things and power through (i.e. use more Ventolin than I admit to) but now I'm confined, I can actually honestly take stock of my intake. Over the weekend, I've been taking notes of when I've been wheezy, taken PF readings when wheezy, after Ventolin, after my tablets and at various times through the day. Boredom leading to a realisation of denial. It's been a bit of a surprise.

Mine sucks.

I thick the stress of lockdown has a effect. I have been shielding since 19th of feb and I am thinking of venturing out at some point.

Paradigm , mine too is better than it's been in over a decade as I live in a city and pollution levels have dropped dramatically. I had to increase my meds to Serotide 500 in 2009 as during that recession I had to take a job that had a combo of all my worse environmental triggers: dust, damp, busy road, tree pollen...

I'm taking it as motivation to campaign even harder for cleaner air.

I also live in a city. I don't drive, so my brief stint in the country just involved a large proportion of time waiting in the freezing cold and inhaling exhaust fumes, etc while waiting for a bus.

I'm absolutely loving the quietness of the streets and the fresher air. If only it was always that way.

Glad to hear you're benefiting from it too. We must be the lucky ones.

my asthma was very bad when lockdown started as I had a chest infection which took ages to go away. I've only recently started to feel better but with the hot weather coming, not so sure it will stay that way. I'm glad you are feeling okay

Sorry to hear you've been so ill, it sucks. I hope you get a little time of relief before the truly hot weather. I am extremely lucky that with enough hayfever meds, I get the summer 'off'.

My asthma has been really good apart from our neighbour out of control bonfire about 3/4 weeks ago. I haven't been in any public spaces ie. shops since March 17th (my family have banned from them)

I am an agency worker (furloughed til 1st June) for schools/nurseries and I not shielding but still clinically vulnerable. I not sure how I going to get some work with the restriction in place for vulnerable asthmatic like me. The government says we should be 2 meters away from any child or can decide to work without social distancing. A really difficult call in my profession.

I would really like to go back to work but not sure if this would be wise. I going to talk to my family and pray about it. If I feel at peace with my decision then I know its the right thing to do.

My astham is getting worse during lockdown. I have had 3 flare-up, my steroid inhaler has been upgraded, and I am on my 3rd flare up taking second course of antibiotics because my brown phlegm is not clearing up.
