I had covid 19 five weeks ago and tested positive when I was admitted to hospital. I didn't need to be ventilated and have now recovered. However my asthma which was previously virtually non-existent has now returned. I'm finding I need to sit down after walking my dog for 10 minutes. How can I improve my lung function?

How can I improve my lung function post covid infection?
You may just have to take it easy for quite some time! When I have had a bad dose of anything, but not bad enough for hospital, I have been warned up to 2-3 months before your lungs heal properly. But it is so frustrating!
Hi
Have you contacted your GP? It may be that covid has knocked your asthma for 6 and that you need more meds now than you were on pre infection. It can take a long time to get over any infection. For example it can take up to 6 months for a healthy individual (no underlying conditions) to recover from pneumonia. And with this being such a new version of the virus no one is going to be sure of long term consequences of having it (like some people with swine flu ended up with chronic fatigue/ME, or severe asthma, whilst others just felt very tired/asthmary for months then fully recovered). Its most likely that you need upgraded meds until you’ve fully recovered, it may be that this is your new norm so getting on the right meds now will be important.
Be gentle with yourself and listen to your body. You may be over the worse of the issue but you ARE still recovering.
Hope this helps and that you feel better and more back to yourself soon
There are specific exercises for lungs post infection to ensure that they are being used properly to avoid secondary infections. But I wouldn't be looking to do anything else just yet as the lungs are still healing.
YouTube has physio vids but watch a few to get a concensus of breathing exercises for recovery.
But I would also ask your GP for meds to help you with any asthma flare up and post infection phase.
