Just to say the priority slot system for”very vulnerable “ people worked for me. Had “the letter” Wednesday, registered with Gov.uk and Sainsbury’s ? Tuesday and had a message today to say I could book home delivery slots (1 per week) with the first being tomorrow.

I wasn’t sure if I would be accepted as said I didn’t need the food box ( as was managing at the time ) but being able to order my own shopping keeps me in control leaving valuable resources for others. Thank you 😊

Hi - where are you. I am in Scotland have had the letter but the only indication to register was to send a text - is that what you did. We have managed for two weeks but things are drying up and can’t get thro to any of the supermarkets. Sounds like you have cracked it so well done

I haven't done so, but I believe that this registration links through to supermarkets who can then identify vulnerable customers.

That’s a shame, yes, I think it’s only England so far but hopefully the others will follow. Like you, We were managing okay but fresh food, vegetables etc were becoming scarce although our friends are brilliant. We are in a little village and in some ways probably better off as we are used to being cut off in bad weather, we make use of our local dairy, bakery, fruit shop and local frozen food distributor which are all now delivering. I received my letter last week and can't get delivery slots either. Apparently it's coming in Scotland... I'm hoping soon!

Good luck. Such a new system will have glitches but not helpful when you need food and meds delivered. Our local council even set up a hub for volunteers to be matched to folk in the shielding group.

Our local newspaper online also has details of local contacts and groups willing to help if all else fails you could try your local NP.

Hi can I just ask how you register with Sainsburys to tell them you are very vulnerable? It’s for my mum she has done the gov.uk but doesn’t know what to do next? Thank you

If she's registered on the gov website and said she needs help with food then Sainsbury's will get it from there so no need to do anything more. If she's said she doesn't need help though (eg she thinks oh my neighbour etc will get bits) it won't work - I registered ages ago but didn't get a slot till I changed my answer to yes I need help getting food (I didn't want to just rely on neighbour).

Thanks for that! Just changed my answer to yes. Found the website unclear and have sent them the following feedback:

"Information regarding access to food is unclear. First impression was it asking if I could afford to pay for food (I can). Understand from information on the Asthma UK forum that you need to say you have difficulty accessing food to be eligible for online deliveries from supermarkets (which I would like to use)".

Yes it is really unclear....also I think they seem to have no middle ground. I don't want/need a food parcel, I can pay for food, I just can't get to the shops myself so wanted delivery.

I had held off on saying yes because I technically could get someone to help but only with smaller shops and then it means he has to go more. I really appreciate him helping but surely better for me to be able to shop online? Will probably get the parcel now but I don't really want/need it and not sure how I can donate to others who do.

Agree entirely! Much better for a single delivery person, ideally with PPE and trained to use it safely, to do multiple deliveries than a friend or neighbour putting themselves at risk for a single delivery. I could probably keep going on one delivery every couple of weeks.

Tel 0800 328 1700, there may a wait but I got through fairly quickly, you need to have your nectar card and e mail address ready.

Worked for me too and I also got the same from Asda (who have free delivery) - not sure if had an account.

Just to say if anyone in England who is shielding hasn't had this it may be because you haven't said you need help with food. I registered a while back when I had the letter but said I didn't need help with food, as I didn't want the parcel and had a neighbour volunteer helping. Then I read on Sainsbury's website that you need to have registered AND said you need help with food. So yesterday I went on and changed that a d same day got emails from Sainsbury's and Asda. Now booked a Sainsbury's slot for Monday and might do Asda the following week.

Like you Mintoes I don't want to take stuff I don't need, but I do prefer to be in control of my shopping not relying on others, and it does mean the neighbour doesn't have to go into shops for me.

Hopefully soon, have you had a message back from Sainsbury’s?

Managed To add a picture of the second text ( a few days after registering with Sainsbury’s)which arrived a few days after the first one. It was once I have the second text that I was able to order.

Useful to know Asda deliver too, thanks for that.

yes i have i think it must be my area that have lots applying as my friend in southampton got one for sunday which she only booked yesterday ! i can"t get a delivery with any of them they are all fully booked it will be even worse if we have a complete lockdown because are people not taking any notice

Hi Mintoes

I am in Scotland and phoned the sainsbury's line for vulnerable people. Key entered my nectar card number but never spoke to anyone due to how busy it was. I got a text from the next day saying they would text me once they had checked my details. 2 days later I received the confirmation text from them.

I've not received the letter yet but was still able to register with sainsbury's.

They sent a link to use for booking a slot, I can't book a slot through the app. Once I booked my slot, I was able to make changes to my order through the app.

There are still slots available in my area - Dundee - through most of next week but they do go quickly.

Sounds like the system is starting to work in Scotland, 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿good news. Hopefully will be available to those in Wales and Ireland too as well as increasing the slots in England. People who are able would mostly prefer to reserve the food parcels to those genuinely in need.
