Symbicort turbo inhaler

Morning , I’ve just started using Symbicort Turbo inhaler 100/6 2 puffs x2 day ( GP prescribed Fostair 100/6 originally but no sign of it in pharmacies anywhere in my area!)

I primed it as instructed but after two puffs I didn’t feel I’d inhaled anything! Is that usual ?

Also as now using a combination inhaler does that put me in shielding advised group on updated list - I’m not sure dose is high enough?

Hope everyone is keeping safe and sane

Shielding isn't just a combi inhaler. People need to also be on at least one other preventer medication and either be on continuous oral steroids or 4 courses between June 19 and Dec 19.

As for the symbicort, I can usually feel/taste that one but not one of my other dry powder inhalers. I'm told it's normal to not be able to notice it....but it's hard to get your head round!

I take Symbicort. I almost never taste mine, but it's doing it's job so I don't worry. You will get more confident about it when you know it's working.

Hi thanks both , I knew Symbicort wasn’t enough for the shielding with a letter but wondered about the advice from Asthma UK re self isolation advised if you are on another list of meds for less severe asthma

I need to be on a higher dose even for that so will soldier on or take unpaid leave

It’s good to know lakelover that you don’t always feel the Symbicort as you inhale . It’s a new technique to the qvar and I think I need to feel more confident in my technique .

Hoping it’s going to help quite soon as chest been unsettled for a couple of weeks now

Thanks to you both for your replies it’s so good to have the support 😊

Hi I take symbicort if you cough after inhaling then you have sucked to hard. I've been on this for several years and touch wood it's been good. No taste but do make sure you have a drink of water afterwards. I'm sure it will be fine once you get used to it 😊

Thanks purple64,

I still don’t feel I’m inhaling much but I turn to click then inhale so fingers crossed 🤞. In a few days I should also see the counter go down which will help. Asthma does seem to be easing too

Keep well
