Problems with mucus in throat

I have not been feeling well for some month. I have Asthma and for a while I have now the feeling that some liquid is running down my throat from my nose. I have forever the need to clear my throat. Sometimes some I bring up some mucus. it feels in my lower throat is if there is a weight. The GP prescribed another nasal spray (had Beconase before) but nothing to get rid of the mucus. Does anybody have an idea if there is something else I can do? Thank you.

I had the same problem which went on for about 18 months. I could feel the mucus as you describe, but my nose wouldn’t blow. I spent that time snorting like a pig to try and get rid of it.

GP put me on Montelukast and the improvement was amazing in a very short time. No more snorting. I can now blow my nose like the rest of the population.

It sounds to me like you may have the beginning of nasal polyps. I've been getting them on & off for years. If you catch them early enough they can be controlled with drops or a spray, but you may eventually need surgery. I've had surgery 8 times. It's a doddle and you feel so much better. Do you feel as though your nose is blocked, even partially, on one or both sides? If so, ask your GP.

No problem. I went for several years with what I thought was a constant cold. It wasn't until a change of GP who then sent me to the E.N.T. in Glasgow. 3 months later I had a new lease of life.

P.S. I've been told that mucus doesn't break down in the stomach. A little grotty, but that may well be why you're feeling bad.

I try to get the medicine online. My GP only prescribed some nasal spray I already tried it and it did not work.

She also said it might take ,3 months. Not good.

What spray? Rhinolast? Mometasone furoate (Nasonex)? These do a relatively decent job of keeping your nasal passages clear but you may be put onto Betnesol drops. These are a stronger steroid. The downside is (well, when I last had them prescribed) they're only made in one factory, which switches to a different drug for 6 months of the year. I kid you not, this is what I was told by my GP. Anyway, just keep pestering your GP for help. Trust me, you REALLY don't want to get into the position I was in.

Hello

I think it was Beconase. I don't know the name of the new one yet.

Not all nasal sprays work for me. Avamys is useless but Mometasone furoate works well.

Hi I have both asthma and I've had 1/4 of my lung removed and I get the mucus on my chest alot so I hope this helps you my consultant told me no matter what don't swallow it spit it out as you have to get rid of it even in public so keeping tissue on you for this is good and it can take it's time but sometimes a good coughing fit really helps move it aswell. I find I get the problem more in the winter and cold weather than the warm weather I do still have a few issues but that's more to do with hayfever and pollen.

I believe the mucus running from nose to throat is known as post-nasal drip. It can be triggered for a variety of reasons from allergies to infections and environmental irritants. There are various tips included over on Harvard Health - health.harvard.edu/staying-...

Dymista is the best nasal spray I've had. It was a real game changer for me. Prescription only I believe but it's soooo much better than the over the counter.
