Chest tightness and pain

Hi, last week for the first time in 20 years i ended up in a&e for a nebuliser because i couldn't breathe, 2 nights on the trot. I was given clarithromycin and co-omaxiclav which i finished last night. Last thursday the gp put me 40mg of steroids, not sure for how long as theyre are trying to get hold of respiratory for guidance.

I am currently on duoresp 320 2 puffs twice daily, montelukast and using my blue inhaler a minimum of 6 times a day. I am still getting tightness in my chest when i am sat down not doing anything and pain central in my chest. The pain does come and go in either side of my chest too. Any suggestions on how to help? Last week scared me and i dont want to end up at the hospital again but i am currently doing nothing at home and still having issues. The gp has said it will be months to get an appointment at respiratory and i cant spend months like this.

You should have a follow up with the GP if they are seeking advice from specialists. Chase them up.

Covid-19 has complicated the ability to get appointments. However, it sounds like you should see a specialist if the GP can't treat you so that your asthma is under control. It may be that you can have a digital appointment, not ideal as the specialist can't run tests or examine you.

I take it that you don't have an asthma plan which sets out action to take. You say that you don't want to go back to A&E, however you must discuss with your GP when you need to call 999 or present at A&E, if necessary. Asthma can suddenly change so you should always seek the right help in timely fashion.

The bottom line is your symptoms require attention from a doctor rather than me or non professional.

If you're still not convinced, phone Asthma UK who have trained nurses who will advise.

I hop you get some relief ASAP.

You could try upping your duoresp 320 a bit, you are allowed to take up to 10 times a day.
