How much of a high risk am I?

Hello all,

I'm just wondering about this dreaded coronavirus and how much of a high risk I am and would I possibly get the serious complications.

So.... I'm 35 years old and had asthma since very young, my asthma seems quite well controlled for the most part. I never usually get colds perhaps once a year. I have the odd bout of prednisone a few times a year if my asthma plays up. I'm quite active and used to cycle up to 120 miles a week (before starting my new job}. I also have PKD but only in stage 1 kidney function is normal. After hearing the schools are closed from Friday I'm wondering what I do Ideally I need to work to keep Money coming in. Thoughts and suggestions. Thanks

Hi Deansamson am asthmatic myself and had a call of my doctor yesterday to say we’re just at risk like everyone is but elderly and pregnant woman are more at risk just keep taking your inhalers.

Government advice is to be stringent about social distancing. Search gov.uk coronavirus and you’ll find lots of info. There is also a chart where you can see how many confirmed cases there are in your area.

It’s worth saving it to favourites once you find it.

I’ve been led to believe everyone has the same chances of catching Covid 19, but if you have a lung condition you are more likely to have serious complications arising from the infection.

On the issue of whether you are personally in a vulnerable group, there was to be advice issued directly through the NHS that anyone in a particularly high risk group should self-isolate; those letters were due to come out this week, but I understand that some may not be received until next week - that should clarify that issue for you, but you don't sound as if that would apply to you.

There is a box just below your original message giving a link to "Latest NHS advice". It doesn't look much at first, but if you scroll down, there are links to Government websites - to give them their due, these are updated very rapidly.

By its very nature, any advice of this sort is going to be generic and I think you have to decide how best to apply it to your particular circumstances. If you keep in mind the purpose of the advice, ie to prevent infection and transmission as far as possible, then any action you take in that regard will be a contribution.

Thanks. On paper I seem to be high risk but in myself I don't feel like I am. Yes I have asthma but I don't smoke a live a active life and a healthy diet. Always to the letter I take my asthma medication. But we will just see what comes
