Montelukast

Hello all! For those that are on Montelukast, how long did it take for it to fully work? Thanks!

For me 3 days like the leaflet informed me placed on it due to hayfever and I have never had a real problem with my hayfever but I still have piriton liquid version just to take the edge of the other side effects of my hayfever

Hi. I started on the 13 th Feb this year. My nose cleared immediately. Wonderful. ( It had been blocked since August 2019 despite continuous use of Beconase.) My nighttime waking and 2am awakening stopped immediately as well. My morning peak flow at that time was way down at 171. It has gradually started creeping up. This morning it was 249. Not back to normal, but nicely up on what it was.

Unfortunately peak flow will only show how we doing at the moment it being done. I have struggled with my hayfever and I still am but I am better than I was thanks to montelukast. I have hit 410, 420 before montelukast and I am still hitting that now. I have even reached 440

I find it worked well after 2 weeks but the affects of it helping in 3 days. Just wondering if you notice that it was helping but not fully as you was getting used to this new medication

It was such a long time ago, I can’t remember the specifics really. I do remember from early on being ecstatic because I was able to sleep a whole night without waking up with a wheeze

It takes a while to get used to but it depends on the time you take it. I have to take it during the day as I have hayfever and I suffered from nightmare's taking it at night. But I noticed my hayfever started to really calm down after 2 weeks but eased up after 3 days. I switched to day taking only with my doctor's advice. Do not apologise for asking for all the questions. We are here to help each other

I was about to ask the same! I started on this a week ago and already seeing a slight improvement.

32 and I am a female. I have extremely strong lung's ad I wad very physical when I was a child. I have adult no allergic asthma

Couple weeks. But I have brittle asthma so I felt it helped but didn’t make a huge difference.

I have been taking it for just over 2 weeks and found it has stopped nightime waking with asthma symptoms. I have also managed to reduce dose of pred down to 10mg and my peak flow has gone up. I am finally mostly in the green zone for the first time since my hospital admission on the 13th February.

I have been on it for several years. I remember it took 2/3 weeks to work well. I take it in the morning otherwise it affects my sleep.

I took it for 2 episodes of asthma. The first time I wasn’t sure what to look for or expect. The second time I kept track of my inhalers on paper and found that I needed a lot less blue while on monteleukast / Singulair. The asthma nurse said that anecdotally she finds her patients do better in it when they use it sporadically. My private consultant said it should not be used that way (?)
