Seretide v Fostair

Going to the GP today as I have found Seretide has become less effective to no effect in controlling my asthma which to be honest is being a bit bothersome of late.I have noticed more conversations regarding Fostair. Wondering what peoples experience is with this inhaler and any side effects?

I am on it and no side effects

I have had Fostair 100/6 and I’m now on Fostair 200/6. I have not experienced side effects with either.

When I was reviewed by my consultant after starting on 100/6 I remember telling him it was magic.

Not everyone has had the same experience as me, but woe betide anyone who tries to take me off it!

Troilus, many thanks. I am getting more convinced that it may be an option. Seretide seems to be making me anxious and giving me palpitations

In the last two years, I have had both Seretide and Fostair, at different times, I have much better control when on the Fostair, I also have fewer side effects on it.

I also have Spiriva added into the mix as well, that I found more helpful than a high dose of Fostair.

Forgive my innocence but is Spiriva a steroid inhaler ?

Spriva is amazing! I've only recently been given this as an add on (won't replace ur steroid inhaler) but works at managing different aspects of asthma symptoms. I noticed a difference within the first few days of this, if you are offered this it's defo worth a try!

I didn't take it for 4 days a few months ago (sick with other things) and the difference I saw in symptoms was really surprising, it's not something il miss again intentionally. Also, no side effects. Apart from a strong metallic taste, but this wears off after a few uses of a new canister, I think this is more design than medicine, but I maybe wrong.

I was on seretide for years and was fine (in my opinion) but my asthma wasn't very well controlled so I had to change. I'm currently being pressured into fostair sooooo much, apparently the finer mist and the stronger steroid is more likely to help manage asthma symptoms and I'm regularly told sertiede is really rubbish these days.

I trialled symbicort after seretide (which I found great!) but despite that I am constantly encouraged to use fostair. From reviews I've read on here it seems to work for many people and lots swear by it.

I personally don't and I feel like the whole pressurising people into it is due to cost over most things.

Give it a try if it's an option for you, it could really help you, if not see if they have any other options for you following seretide.

Fostair did nothing for me so managed to persuade them to go back on seretide. Think fostair is cheaper.

Well I have Fostair on a month trial with asthma nurse appointment at the “end” of the trial. Thank you all so much for your advice and help. You seriously are a good bunch.

I was on Seretide for several years, Drs changed me to Fostair over a period of about 12 months my asthma deteriorated and I ended up with a hoarse voice.

Put back on Seretide reluctantly by Dr, making me feel selfish because of the difference in cost, but I have remained on it for about 3 years my asthma is controlled again. Every now and again a Dr will try to get me back of Fostair but I flat blank refuse to go back on it, it really didn't do anything for my asthma. Good luck with the trial, I think that is wise, I wasn't monitored and I didn't realise the decline because it was gradual over the 12 months, until I could barely walk 50 m without stoping to catch my breath.

I was on Fobumix dry powder inhaler but was not well controlled and ended up having a severe attack. Whilst I was in hospital I was taken off Fobumix and started on Fostair. It didn't work straight away but I have been on it since the 15th of February and it seems to really be helping. I am using a lot less Ventolin and have managed to wean down to 10mg of pred. I take 4 puffs of Fostair 100/6 twice a day.

I was on Seretide 250 [2 puffs twice a day] for years and complained bitterly when the doctors at the practice I was with decided to move over to either Forstair or Duoresp.

I thought they were just trying to save money.

I chose Duoresp 160 , only because I wasn't keen on taking medication through the spacer and for no other informed reason.

I was not really informed about the differences.

I needed a lot of hand holding at the beginning so joined this forum.

The day I changed medication the leg pains I used to suffer at night; like horrible cramps but they would take ages to pass, completely disappeared and have never returned.

But the best thing about changing over was a chronic cough I had had for over 6 years which the doctors seemed unable to diagnose or explain, also completely disappeared after 3 weeks and has not returned.

It seems that Seretide was not for me but no doctor could ever correlate the side effects I was experiencing with the medication and I just never twigged till I stopped taking it and my life changed.

I now take one puff Duoresp 160 twice a day and it works for me.

Hi give it a try. My side effects were horrific to say the least but it does work for some. I'm back to seretide you honestly don't know what new inhalers do, everyone is individual. See what your Dr Says. I'm on spriva too and it's my life saver would not give it up for the world even though they have tried. It's used as a long acting broncodilator use it for brittle asthma copd etc 🤔

I have been on Fostair but didn't find it helpful. I am still on Sertide 125 Evohaler but recently had to increase the dose as I could not get a breath even though I was also using my reliever too. I normally take two puffs twice daily but have increased it to 4 puffs twice daily. I checked this out with my GP and he ok it for a short time until I see my asthma nurse. I still have tightness in chest and a feeling of tightness in my throat area. My peek flow is sitting at 380 average which is good for me. I hope this helps.

I used to be on Serevent and Flixitide then on Seritide now I'm on Revlar Elipta.... don't see any differences never had a problem with any of them... but no idea why they change it.. probably due to cost... but not due to how my asthma is lol I am also on Spiriva which I think helps... bit not sure which is helping better than what as I don't stop taking them to see if it changes...if you know what I mean....just getting over a virus atm (not THE virus lol) so on 40mgs of Pred again for a week....was in hospital last weekend... starting to feel more strength though still not able to walk too far without getting breathless... but at least the wheeze is gone and I'm not coughing as much

I’ve been on fostair for two or three years now and there are no side effects. Had a bad bout of asthma a few months back and the nurse doubled the strength of my Fostair inhaler and I’ve found I’ve been more controlled since then.

I was on Fostair for about 3 years, but have been on Trimbow 87/5/9mcs two puffs morning and night for 18 months ... Less flare ups than I was experiencing when on Fostair, but even though I am hot on hygiene, oral thrush can be a problem for me.

No other side effects.

I started on fostair 100/6 and my asthma was still uncontrolled so they upped it to 200/6 2 puffs twice a day which was better but still having attacks so the consultant stopped slo- phyllin and replaced it with the spiriva respimat and it’s brilliant for me! I also take motalukast but find those together work wonders and haven’t had an attack in months. I was always told give new inhalers 6 weeks to work but I felt the difference within a couple of weeks and I could actually walk down the road, it’s trial and error and I hope they find what works for you
