Pain killers and heat packs / tiger balm (or deep heat that sort of thing)

Ok thank you. Recently diagnosed and have totally new found admiration for sufferers. Like all conditions until You suffer you never appreciate.

I have a similar story childhood asthma. Went 16 years( 25 years without an attack) with no preventer then this year everything went crazy!

Honey and lemon to soothe the cough, paracetamol, tiger balm. I've been coughing a lot for the last 5 weeks due to a cold/flu virus. Extra pillow at night helps as well.

I’d love an answer to this one. I’m having an exacerbation, on top of a bad cold, and then I had a new hole in the wall gas fire installed...lovely and warm but a BIG big dusty job. I haven’t stopped coughing since, despite all the vacuuming and damp dusting in the world.

My ribs feel so so bruised. I double up to cough but the pain is immense. Tried a TENS machine around my ribs but no real change and the wires just caused more problems.

I’m on as many pain killers as possible , which help a bit but the gaps In time are too wide!!

Ten days and still going STRONG.

It sounds to me as if you need to see an AN or a gp. Are you keeping an eye on your peakflow? How is your breathing? If your asthma is affected then it could be the muscles in your midriff that are overworked in supporting your breathing. That may require more intervention to ease your asthma. So go see someone soon. Brick dust etc not good for asthma. I was adviced to temporarily move out when we had some essential work in our house that caused a lot of brick dust.

I feel I’ve let something very unwise happen. I moved house about 20 months ago, my asthma improved so much, no exacerbations in that time. Meds carried on as usual, but maybe I became complacent. I was taken totally by surprise with the amount of work and dust created.

I’m using steam treatment to try to clear my lungs, on top of rescue meds....things slowly improving I think. The pain from over use of coughing muscles has now moved down my body to abdomen area. It still takes courage to cough, but doing it.

Yes, I do intend to seek advice from a GP this coming week. My pf remains a bit low at 66%, my blood oxygen was 91%, now 93%, usually 96%. So moving towards the right direction hopefully. I’m taking regular pain killers which is easing the muscle pain slowly. I just hope I can recover. Thanks for your thoughts.

If not sooner, seek urgent help on Monday. If it is like it is here, you can wait 3 weeks for an ordinary appointment. And do take it easy! Rest and recuperate, but not perhaps in the brick dust room.

Gentle pressure using finger or thumb on each rib where pain, eases pain. Gentle stretching of rib cage eased constriction.

Or oesteopath to ease tight rib muscles opens diaphragm to aid breathing
